Earthquake? Which Earthquake?

Hey there.  There have been a lot of talk about the "big one" hitting southern California today.  That's right, TODAY.  And to be quite honest with you, I think it's all a bunch of crap.  First off, you cannot predict earthquakes.  Scientist have had a go at it for decades and they still cannot predict when an earthquake is going to strike.  Now, I'm not saying that they are nowhere in regards to earthquake prediction.  What I am saying is that by the time they know one is going to strike, the rest of us know too.  lol  So why all the earthquake talk?  Because of Twitter messages like this...

Yeah, that says 6.5 to 7.0 earthquake TODAY.  This has caused all kinds of panic in the Los Angeles area.  Listen people, we cannot predict earthquakes yet.  The fact that this person is saying that there's in earthquake happening in southern California is not new.  Believe it or not, we have more than a few earthquakes here a day.  It's just that they are of low magnitude that we don't feel them.  But how do we know they happened?  Cause those above mentioned scientist have trying to find a way to predict earthquakes that they've found a way to measure even the smallest of movement in the Earth's crust!  Now relax people.  No need to panic.  If we do have an earthquake, it should somewhat be expected since that's the way of life here in southern California.  But more likely than not, we're going to get through this day, like any other, with some light shakin' and bakin' under the California sun.  Later!

Backing up, Backing up, Backing up, Backin up... Cause my Daddy Taught Me Good

Hey there.  I have been cracking up to this video since I first heard about it on the Kevin & Bean show on KROQ.  I looked it up and the whole family has this song on the brain.  It's even been sung at the most inappropriate of times.  lmao  It's a catchy tune and once you'll hear it, you'll curse me for inviting such as catchy song into your brain.  lmao  You're welcome.

Motivational Monday - Age

Hey there.  I love the NFL!  I'm glad that it's back.  Look for my Heavy Metal Rankings to hit tomorrow, once the Monday night games have come to pass.  I used to do all 32 teams, but I'll be honest... It's tough to rank them all so I'll just do the top 9 (cause that's how I roll) and provide some personal thoughts on my Oakland Raiders (yeah, I'm serious).  lol  But boy, and I happy the NFL season started and some real good football has taken place!  And to start it all off was the Vikings vs the Saints on Thursday night.  I was excited to see a old fashion shoot out... What we got was an aging Brett Favre with no receivers and a Saints offense that were not quite in sync yet.  Except for a few plays here and there, Favre looked every bit of 40.  Still... I hope he does well this year, but it will be tough with out his top receivers!  So here's to you, old man Brett.  Good luck!

What is in McDonald's Chicken Nuggets???

Hey there.  I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but there's a lot of people that eat fast food.  lol  A popular spot is the world famous McDonalds.  The golden arches have been selling burgers, fries, and nuggets to millions of people a year and quite frankly, it can become addicting.  Addiciton...  That brings me to my point.  What the hell does McDonalds put in their food to cause people to go crazy?  As of late, there has been this video roaming the web about a woman that couldn't have chicken nuggets and she went into a rage, punching a woman, and smashing the drive thru window!  Now, I would be inclined to say, "you know what, the woman must have had a tough day and just lost her better judgment." but this is not an isolated case.  I've read people calling 911 because the chicken nuggets ran out, people fighting over the fried food, and now insane incidents in the drive thru.  I don't know what's going on but I'd say there's some special ingredients in there to make customers go back for their fix.  I'm just saying...  Someone needs to check them out.  If you haven't seen the video, I've posted it here.  What do you think?  Crazy woman?  Or crazy McDonalds?  Later!

$1 Admission to the LA County Fair This Weekend

Hey there.  I've lived in the Los Angeles are my whole life.. yet, I have only been to the LA County fair once.  I went a few years ago with my family and we had ourselves a good time.  This year, I get word that admission is only a dollar during the Labor Day weekend.  But only if you show up before 1 PM.  I'm definitely there!  With a family of 6, admission would probably run us closer to $100 so if we can get in for a $1 each, it's definitely worth it!  Here are some of the deals that are going on for $1 this weekend at the LA County Fair:

RIP Satoshi Kon

Hey there.  Satoshi Kon has moved on.  The great director of Perfect Blue and Paprika fame has passed away at the tender age of 47.  I've been a movie fan all my life but I've recently turned to foreign and anime films to get my fix.  While I've watched some awesome horror films (recently watched Audition, Tale of Two Sisters), I've always had a soft spot for the foreign anime films (Akira, Grave of the Fireflies, Spirited Away).  Now, Miyazaki has always been a favorite of mine, but Satoshi is right up there with him.  Perfect Blue and Paprika are right up my alley as psychological thrillers of the animated kind and Satoshi directed animated classics.

I did a review of Perfect Blue a year or so ago.  You can check that out here, but be warned since I pretty much kill the whole movie.  If you don't plan on watching it (which you should!) then read it afterwards.  If not, check it out.  I don't think I did one of Paprika, but if you've seen the recently released film Inception, then you'll enjoy Paprika.  From what I'm told of Inception, it has to do with the idea of entering your dreams, something that the Paprika (the novel) did well over a decade ago.  Either way, Paprika and Perfect Blue are must see movies for anime and thriller fans.

Rest in peace, my friend.  Later!

Do You Know of the Secret ampm Secret Menu?

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of AMPM. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hey there friends. ampm has been known for years as a gas station pit stop for snacks and nothing more but the times are changing and with a slogan as "Too much good stuff", the ampm convenience store is gaining much deserved attention.  When my wife and I first started dating, we would have ampm nights.  No fancy restaurants for us!  A quick trip to ampm to grab some grub and then we'd stay in the car and just hang out and spend time together.  In no way was it conventional, but it worked for us.  And for that, ampm will forever have sentimental value to me.  Today, I learned that there is now a secret menu at ampm that will set apart the standard burger and hot dogs with awesome concoctions!

Check out the secret menu tab at their facebook page.  It lists the current secret items with more being revealed on 7/26, 8/2, 8/9, 8/16, 8/30.  I can already see myself eating the "Hot Chihuhua" on a regular basis and I see myself taking the challenge of downing a "Towering Inferno".  lol  Yeah, with cool names like that, how can you not be intrigued.  Check out the Hot Chihuahua and the Towering Inferno below.

How can you not want to take those on!  The secret menu tab lists the ingredients and the know how on how to make it, but I left those out for you to discover on your own.  Check out the ampm secret menu tab and comment on the items that you see yourself eating.  And don't forget to check it out on 8/2.  ampm will allow their fans to add their very own secret menu concoctions right on Facebook!  If it's good enough, they may very well add it to the menu!  Imagine that... to have a burger... sandwich... or nachos... of my very own creativity to be sold in 1000's of ampm's!  A guy can dream, can't he?  Later!

The Los Angeles Lakers are the 2009-2010 Champs!

Hey there.  What an awesome game 7 between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics!!!  It definitely  was a defensive game and questions surrounded the Celtics on how they would be able to compete without their big man Perkins in the middle.  Looking at the final score of 83-79 doesn't convey the intensity, the tension, the reputations, and the legacy that was on the line.  I'm still hyped up over the game and if you missed it, you missed one hell of a game 7.  In a league where high flying offense seems to be what draws crowds, this defensive battle kept the players, and the fans on edge from beginning to end.  It wasn't a blow out, and at one point it seemed that the Lakers would fall the to Celtics, but they pulled it out with tough defense and a gritty performance.  Congrats my friends!!!!  And too the teams that made it to the post season and made it awesome for the fans, thanks!  Until next season!  Later!

Project Natal is Now XBOX Kinect

Hey there.  I'm pretty excited about stopping by the Galen Center later tonight to check out the "Project Natal" XBOX Experience.  Well, it was announced today that the "project" will now be called Xbox: Kinect.  I'm looking at this as a show and a show.  lol  I'm not exactly sure what part Cirque du Soleil has in all of this but their name is written all over the invitation.  Here are some of the pics that were posted on the XBOX Facebook page.  If you ask me, this looks pretty awesome!  I can't wait.  Later!

Rock Band 3... With Keyboard???

Hey there.  I love the music genre of games that seem to have plagued most of the video game consoles.  I own Rock Band 1 & 2 and several of the Guitar Hero installments.  Now, there's buzz about the upcoming Rock Band 3 and from what I've being told, it's supposed to be pretty massive in terms of it's catalog.  That is a good thing.  The more music choices the better the range of musical tastes that will be featured.  However, there is a screen shot popping out in the internet that displays what seems to be a promo shot for Rock Band 3.  Check it out...
First and foremost... It's pretty obvious that there is a 5th symbol and it appears to be piano keys.  I don't know how to feel about this.  The band is pretty entertaining as it is with a 4 man band, I don't know if adding that piano/keyboard player is necessary.  It may also be the reason that the music catalog can be so vast.  If not piano, maybe accordion???  Can we expect some killer Weird Al in Rock Band 3?  Maybe some Kanye West?  Or Tori Amos?  I don't know... It's interesting to see how that's going to play out.  Another change is in the microphone symbol.  There are now 3 mics in the symbol, similar to that in Rock Band: The Beatles.  Now...  I'm all for fun and games... but have you heard the people that sing while playing Rock Band/Guitar Hero?  They're no Journey's Steve Perry....  Not even a Bon Jovi (that's for you, bro! lol)  and if you're including harmonies to the rock portion of the singing... it may not be as entertaining as having that one star vocalist.  Then again, this is all my opinion, for all I know, they tweak the system enough to make it fresh and make it work.  It's all speculation at this point, but if their idea of an upgrade is expanding the instruments, then the genre may be taking a step back.  Later!

7 - Eleven Introduces "Game Day" Beer

Hey there.  Would you buy a 12 pack of beer for $6.99 to $8.99?  Sounds like steal to me.  Especially when many of us are still pinching pennies and making sure we don't spend a fortune on unnecessary stuffs.  But when a game is on and you're buddies are over, how can you not have beer?  And where do you usually go for a beer run?  If you're like me, I hit the closet thing and it's usually a 7-Eleven.  You find those suckers everywhere and it's better than hitting a market since you'll avoid those long lines.  7-Eleven knows this and has now tapped into the beer market with their own brand of beer, Game Day Beer.
This is smart.  7_Eleven knows it's customers and it's a fairly well known beer run spot.  So once you're there and you see a 12 pack of beer for about $8, how can you not go, "Screw it, let's give this a go."  I know for a fact that I'll be giving it a try once the 7-Eleven by my house starts carrying it.  Why not?  Everything is worth a shot.  Whether or not this is success is left to be seen and if you're like me, you're going to want to make sure that it tastes good too.  Considering that it's being made by one of Wisconsin's oldest breweries gives some reputation and credence to the new kid on the block, but whether or not it can tap into Bud's and Miller's customers will tell if this beer will be even remotely successful.

One a side note, I love the name of it.  Game Day Beer.  Great marketing there.  Most people are not lone drinkers and drink beer only during certain social events, like a football, basketball, or baseball game.  This beer clearly is aimed at those customers and quite frankly, is pure genius.

Tiger, Is That the Best You Can Do?

Hey there.  So today is the infamous "Apology Friday", known so because today is the day that Tiger Woods publicly apologized for his infidelity.  My first problem with this is why did it have to take 3 months to issue an apology?  If you screwed up, then fess up to it, admit your faults and do what you can to rectify the issue.  You speak from the heart and wear your emotions your sleeve.  This "apology" that Tiger spewed out this morning was nothing of that sort.

My first impression was that this "apology" was a definitely scripted and nothing more than a well rehearsed speech.  If you are there to apologize, you don't walk out with a stack full of papers in your hand.  Maybe an index card or two to remind you of names, time, dates or whatever, but this 15 min speech was all written on paper and Tiger didn't so much speak as he did read.  And slowly too.....  He spoke in a monotone voice, displaying very little emotions, and to be honest, could be compared to a robot.  Who wants to believe a robot that is apologizing?  You're more inclined to believe that the words were programmed to be spoken and I definitely got that vibe from Tiger.  He played the part of the robot, while his PR crew played the part of the programmer.

I'm very disappointed by this so called apology.  The man changed the game of golf, he brought it mainstream, there are video games with him on them and even some kids have started watching the game because of Tiger.  I believe that his family, his friends, his fans, and even to an extent, his mistresses, deserved a more heart felt apology than the craptastic speech that was on display this morning.  His family, for the hell that he's putting his wife and kids through.  His friends for his display of recklessness and lack of self control.  His fans for the damage that he has made to the millions of fans that admired and adored him.  His mistresses... even though they new what they were doing is wrong, I'm certain that Tiger may have strung a few along promising the world.

I'm disappointed in you, Tiger.  As I watched you speak, I was waiting for the moment where you would not look down and read your papers.  I looked for the moment where what you spoke of was genuine and true.  I looked for that emotion that would tell me that you are truly, deeply sorry.  That moment never came.  Even when you got up to hug your mother, I felt it was an awkward moment.  It didn't feel real.  I'm sorry Tiger, but I just don't believe that this "apology" of yours.  And to be honest, if you can't look at me, the fan, in the eye and speak the from the heart, how I can follow and support you?  How can I look at you and believe what is coming out of your mouth?  I just don't think I can.  Later.

I's Raining in Southern California!

Hey there.  Big whoop de doo, right?  Well, it's kinda a big deal where in the land of sunshine.  Every time we get a little bit of rain, the news reports jump on the "story" and all you hear is "storm watch (insert year here)".  It gets a little annoying, especially when the news reports are 30 mins long on a light drizzle.  Well, that's not the case this time around.  It really is pouring and since it's coupled with lightning and thunder, most of the "southland" is a little rattled.  I love me some rain.  Its great that it's pouring over here.  We don't get much rain and it's great to see that we're finally getting some substantial amount of rain.  The problem though is that we're getting high winds with this storm.  I live in the Long Beach area and I'm getting word from twitter friends and coworkers that a tornado warning has been issued for the city of Long Beach.  Tornadoes?  In California? I don't ever remember there being a tornado warning that would pertain to us.

My wife and kids are a little rattled.  She's always been one to keep an eye out for lightning and thunder.  The last time we had a thunderstorm, the kids thought that there was a monster outside the house.  lol  Things can get pretty ugly pretty quickly.  Now, I'm a little concerned for our little one.  He's just getting over a sickness and now we're getting hit with this damn storm and it's making me feel a little uneasy.  We cover him up the best we can, but it's never a good idea to take a baby out during weather like this.

I'm not much in the mood to work today, but I got a meeting in 30 mins...  I'm hoping the rest of the day will fly by so that we can get home.  Later!

John C. Fremont High School Being Shut Down

Hey there.  A few weeks back, I received word that my high school in Los Angeles is being taken over by the state.  Yeah, it's that bad friends.  It's right in the middle of South Central Los Angeles and it's in a pretty bad neighborhood.  That's my school, folks.  lol  Well, it turns out that the city got tired of the low test scores and high drop out rate so they've decided to start from scratch.  They are firing the whole staff and new hires will be brought in.  From what I hear, teachers working there now will have to re-apply.  It kinda sucks, since a class mate of mine is a part of the music staff at Fremont.

Fremont has always been bad.  I remember that when I first started going there, an older cousin of mine would tell me to not linger around the school and to hurry home to avoid any gang violence or thug altercations.   From the picture that he was painting in my head, this was the school from hell.  Stabbings, shootings, theft... it was all there, according to him.  And I must say, it wasn't always the case.

I was a band geek, so I was part of the marching band.  The band had long rehearsals that usually ended well after school was over and on Wednesday, we would be at school until 8 PM.  Now, I don't remember experiencing MUCH of the violence and what not.  I used to stay after school and what not and I can honestly say that I've run into trouble of that nature once or twice but nothing in the scale of what was said.  We did have lock downs from time to time.  Which occurred during school, and usually during class.  For those of you not familiar with the term, it's when NO ONE is allowed to leave their classroom until the "disturbance" has been taken care of.  Usually, police would be involved.  It wasn't uncommon to go through an armed policeman before entering the school.

I remember, after graduation, hearing the news that Fremont was deteriorating.  More armed policeman were patrolling the quad, a fence was built around the school to keep students inside (or the "bad" people out), and the student body just didn't seem to care about their academics.  So now, the Los Angeles Unified School District, LAUSD, has stepped in to take control of the school.  It's tough to say what's going to happen to the school.  What I do know is that this year will play out and then once the year is over, who knows.  Just my luck too.  2010 would be my 10 year high school reunion.  lol  For all the negativity that can be said about Fremont, I think it sucks that it's fallen so low.  I can never wash away the memories and friendships that came with my high school experience.  So here's to you, friends.  Whether our school is still "functioning" or not, I say we take care of business and do our reunion anyways.  Just gonna be a lot harder to get everyone together.  We'll see what transpires, but all I got to say is, "Find a Path, or Make One."  Later!

The All in One LG Chocolate Touch

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of LG Chocolate Touch. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hey there friends. As many of you know, I've been having some major issues issues with my phone. It's just not happening anymore. I cannot open my web browser without it overloading the phone, causing it to crash. Even receiving picture mail is beginning to be a hassle. When I'm receiving the picture, if I have not cleared up enough memory for it, the phone will crash and when I restart it, it shows that I never received the picture. And you can forget about playing videos. It's simply a nightmare to view a video. It's a constant struggle just to do mundane operations on my phone now. What I need a great all in one phone, such as the new LG Chocolate Touch.

The LG Chocolate Touch is more than able to handle the tasks of a person such as myself. No more will I not be able to post a tweet because my phone is freezing up. Since I just joined Facebook, the LG Touch's One-touch Social Network Message Key would be welcomed so that I can further familiarize myself with facebook and other social media sites with a touch of a button. It's also a great mobile media center, offering top of the line picture, video messaging, and Dolby mobile tech for a high quality sound. Another great quality is the 3.2 MP digital camera. Why bother with a $150 digital camera when you can take great shots with your phone? It happened on more that one occasion where I forget our digital camera at home so I don't get to take pictures while we are at events. But you know what, we never forget our phones. I don't dare take photos with the crappy 1 MP camera phone that I have now. The quality is just poor. If I had a LG Chocolate Touch, my only problem would be making sure that I have enough memory for all the pictures I plan on taking!

And the absolute best part? Ciara herself will fall out of the sky to play her songs whenever I listen to her music on my phone! Oh wait... that was just the commercial. lol But because the phone has such high quality sound, it will be AS IF Ciara herself is singing right there and you won't miss a beat, once you activate the rhythmical beat option, causing you phone to dance, I mean, vibrate with the music.

I wonder if I can trade my old phone and get a LG Chocolate Touch. Considering that I need to check Email to get updates on all my social media sites, it would be great to have a phone that can do it all. And do it, without crashing. Later!

Are Cartoons Getting too Sexy for Kids?

Hey there. I need to throw in my two cents on this topic. I believe that a child should be a child and spend their youth being a kid. Chores, play, games, school, cartoons, you know, the normal kid stuff. But recently, I've seen a trend come to pass that I am not pleased with and it seems that it is aimed at the young ladies of this world. I am talking about "sexy" and inappropriate images in cartoons and cartoon products. Here are some of those items that have cause for concern.

ANYTHING BRATZ

I am not a fan of Bratz. I think they take this movement waaaaaay overboard. Our first encounter with these dolls happened back when our oldest daughter received a "Baby Bratz" as a gift. Nothing wrong with a little having a baby, right? WRONG! The baby was wearing a thong. A THONG! I don't see how this can be interpreted as cute or anything of the like. A baby should be in diapers, or some kind of baby outfit. Not in a mini skirt, a tank top, and a thong. Since then, we have pretty much removed most Bratz items from the house. I don't like what they stand for either. Our daughter was young when she received that doll and recently she asked that we rent a Bratz movie to watch. It was animated and considering that she was older, we felt that we would check it out before letting her see it. My goodness, they were all airheads, they cared nothing but their appearance and boys, and spent their free time singing and shopping. Kids are pretty impressionable at this age and I don't like these figures. Needless to say, that was that for Bratz.

Dora the Explorer

The direction that Dora is heading is more of a disappointment more than anything else. The idea for Dora was a great one. A child goes off in adventures with her monkey Boots all the while, teaching kids a few Spanish words. My youngest daughter loves it. I liked that she picked up some Spanish. Even though we are of Spanish heritage, we just don't speak it at home so it was nice that she would learn a thing or two from Dora and her grandparents. Recently, Dora has gotten a makeover. A more older Dora, whose hair magically changed color, wearing leggings, and lipstick. Is Dora trying to become the latest Bratz? If this is supposed to be a tween Dora, I don't like the fact that she has on lipstick. I doubt Dora will be going on adventures in heels and lipstick... unless she's going on mall expeditions from now on.

Rainbow Brite

This is the latest to get the makeover. Though I was not a huge fan of Rainbow Brite as a kid, I know the cartoon from my youth. Rainbow Brite and the Star Kids (I think) were kids who went on missions to restore color to the world, or something to that effect. Check out the before pic of Rainbow Brite and her crew.

Now here is the "updated" Rainbow Brite.
You see why I have a problem with this? What's wrong with kids that look like kids? Why the longer legs? Why the drastic change in appearance? The only thing that looks somewhat the same are the little things with fur. But other than that, I don't like this modernization of old school cartoons. I don't want my girls to get the image that they need to look like that to be considered good. I even like the fact that the original green one has a band aid on. It shows that they're kids and are prone to bump, trip, and fall over things. I doubt that any of the new Rainbow Brite cast will sport a band aid, let alone look like they want to get dirty.

I just don't like the makeovers. I don't like that they shows are trying to convey that young girls need to look a certain way. I feel as if they get enough pressure as it is being a kid, going to school and worrying about homework. The last thing that should be on a child's mind is their appearance and TV is certainly not helping. Later.

Get That Job Looking Gillette Ready

Hey there friends. It's a tough job market our there for those of us looking for a job. The economy is moving up, but jobs are still not as abundant as they were before. Maybe you've been one of the lucky few to have an interview lined up. Don't blow the only chance you have to make a great first impression. Our good friends at Gillette commissioned a survey of over 500 HR professionals and 90% of those professionals indicated that they were more impressed with well groomed interviewees than those that were not. Disney Owns Marvel

Hey there. This is a problem. This is a huge problem. The creators of the "Happiest Place on Earth" has just purchased the rights of some of the most dark, and mentally challenged characters every created. I am not happy with this. I don't want my Dark Knight to be transformed into some "cute" creation to appease the Disney audience. I want blood, I want violence, I want the dark and sick mind that makes Batman, Batman.

I'm not too happy with this. Disney has a reputation of dumbing things down to appease their audience. Many of the characters in the Marvel universe are flawed, and are flawed for a reason. There is no "perfect" superhero. They all have their own strengths and faults that give them human characteristics that we can relate too. We all can relate to one of many of their characters and we can do that without having a huge ego. Peter Parker is noble yet nerdy, Batman is strong yet troubled, The Incredible Hulk is a monster fueled by rage and Iron Man is an engineer that is power hungry (my opinion). If Disney jumps in here and starts meddling with story lines and characteristics, there are going to be many unhappy readers. Later.
