NFL Heavy Metal Rankings: Week 3 2010

Hey there friends.  Week 2 continued on the same trend as week 1.  Some very good games (Saints - 49ners), more disappointing surprises (Vikings 0-2) and more injuries (Saints RB Bush broken leg).  Nevertheless, it was one great week of football!  Now, on to the rankings.

Prev. #2  The defending champs had a hard fought battle with the 49ners on a windy Monday night.  Though San Francisco looked formidable at times, the Saints gutted the stormed and marched down the field for a game winning field goal.  The win didn't come without a heavy blow.  Saints RB Reggie Bush is out for 6-8 weeks with a broken leg.  The next couple of weeks will be critical to the Saints Super Bowl run.  NEXT: FALCONS (1-1)

Prev. #1  Giving the Bills a beatdown doesn't surprise me.  Good teams are expected to beat inferior opponents.  We'll get a better understanding of how good this team is when they go up against divisional foe, Chicago.  We'll also see if the loss of RB Ryan Grant can be overcome by the running of RB Brandon Jackson.  NEXT:  @BEARS (2-0)

Prev. #5  Surprise, surprise!  The Texans are looking awesome under the play of QB Matt Schaub.  Being just 3 yards shy of 500 yards, QB Schaub came out on top in an overtime thriller with the QB Donovan McNabb lead Redskins.  Another win against a quality opponent will dictate that the Texans have indeed arrived.  NEXT: COWBOYS (0-2)

Prev. #-  Another big surprise comes in the form of the Steelers being 2-0.  The Steelers have relied heavily on their defense to keep them in games and ultimately win them.  No one envisioned this team winning more than a game without their star QB Ben Roethlisberger but a 3-0 start is very possible with a favorable matchup against Tampa Bay.    NEXT: @Buccaneers (2-0)

Prev. #6  Indy came out firing after their week 1 loss.  Indy QB Peyton Manning looked like his old self again while giving his younger brother a beat down he won't soon forget.  With a strong balance between passing, running, and defensive plays, the Colts have to be favored to be on top of the AFC South when it is all said and done.  Look for them to light up the Broncos and start a winning streak.  NEXT:  @DENVER (1-1)

Prev. #-  The Jets made a bold statement against the favored Pats.  Jets QB Mark Sanchez shined and stayed poised while under pressure.  The Jets defense completely shut down the Patriots offense, stifling Pats QB Tom Brady on many occasions.  Pats WR Randy Moss had no receptions in the second half, but that wasn't because he was on Revis Island.  CB Darrell Revis was injured in the game and is expected to miss at least a week.  NEXT @DOLPHINS (2-0)

Prev. #7  QB Tom Brady was channeling his inner Jim Mora during his press conference after the game.  After tearing his team a new one and claiming that they "sucked" it was clear that Tom was not a happy camper.  The offense could not move the ball in the second half and because of it, were held scoreless after scoring a quick 14 pts in the first half.  Look for them to bounce back with a vengeance against the lowly Bills.  NEXT: BILLS (0-2)

Prev. #3  The Ravens will be a formidable foe once QB Joe Flacco syncs with his offense.  The Raven defense has kept them in games and until the offense can find it's groove, expect for LB Ray Lewis to will his team to victories.  Look for Flacco to get his act together and light up the Browns for a couple of TDs in the Raven home opener.  NEXT: BROWNS (0-2)

Prev. #-  The Dolphins are beginning to look like a playoff team.  The defensive pass rush has been one to keep an eye on and if QB Chad Henne can develop some chemistry to WR Brandon Marshall, this offense can win games for the Dolphins down the stretch.  This week's game against the Jets will determine how good this Dolphin team can be.  NEXT: JETS (1-1)

THE RAIDERS:

Prev. #(28) This team is nowhere near the top 9... but they would be ranked 27th in my system. 

The Raiders took care of business in beating the Rams last week.  Though, they did it without the newly acquired QB Jason Campbell.  Campbell was taken out of the game at halftime and QB Bruce Gadkowski came in and gave the home crowd a show.  He did what Jason Campbell couldn't...  get first downs.  With the offensive line having issues, Bruce released the ball much quicker than Jason having successful completions to wide receivers.  The problem that Oakland faces now is who to start at QB.  The "next" Jim Plunkett, Jason Campbell or Bruce Gradkowski?  Accordingly to the Raiders, that determination will made later today.  Running the ball with RB Darren McFadden has also bolstered the rushing game.  The Oakland running game is 3rd in the league with 154 yards a game.  Many of those coming behind the strong legs of McFadden.  And with strong hands, he's also an easy target for the QB to throw some quick screens to.  NEXT: @CARDINALS (1-1)

NFL Heavy Metal Rankings: Week 2 2010

Hey there. I don't do a pre-week 1 rankings. I feel that you need to see the teams in action before you can place the teams in a ranking system. Sure, some were powerhouses last year, but with all the off season moves, you never know who might surprise you (AHEM... Kansas City... AHEM). So here is my top power rankings and a tidbit on my NFL team, the Oakland Raiders.

The Packers came up with a win against the Kolbless Eagles.  But QB Michael Vick wasn't going down without a fight.  Despite a valiant effort, the Eagles fell short the Packers came out on top.  QB Aaron Rodgers looked ordinary (2 TDs, 2 INTs) and we'll have to see how much of an impact the loss of RB Ryan Grant will affect the passing game.  NEXT: BILLS

The shootout with the Vikings never materialized as the offense for both teams seemed to struggle at times.  However, with the defense coming to play, and making the Viking QB Brett Favre look every bit of 40, the Saints pulled out the victory.  Look for them to start checking out kickers.  K Garrett Hartly missed two very makable kicks. NEXT: 49NERS

The Ravens definitely shut up the Jets with their defense.  The Ravens pressured Jets QB Mark Sanchez all game long and the defensive line dominated the front lines all game long.  QB Flacco has many weapons to work with.  It's only a matter of time before he's in sync with his receivers putting the Ravens back in Super Bowl contention. NEXT: @BENGALS

Is trouble brewing in Big D?  Coach Wade Philips better right this ship fast.  The offense only produced 7 points in a game where the Cowboys hurt themselves more than the Redskins beat them.  The Cowboys still have the talent, but if they cannot produce this year, the Cowboys will look for a new head coach.  NEXT: BEARS

Who is this Arian Foster kid?  He gashed the Colts defense for a staggering 231 yards and 3 TDs.  QB Matt Schaub didn't have to do much since the running game was astounding.  A big win over the Colts can pay huge dividends for young team and this may be the year where they may legitimately challenge the Colts for the AFC South crown. NEXT: @REDSKINS

QB Peyton Manning was Peyton Manning throwing for over 400 yards and 3 TDs, but the running game was nowhere to be found.  It takes a team to win in the NFL and he can't do it all by himself.  And now with the loss of S Bob Sanders, look for the Indy run defense to continue to struggle.  NEXT: GIANTS

Disarray in New England?  It didn't look like it.  With distractions abound (QB Brady car accident, WR Moss contract dispute) none of it was apparent on the field.  The cool and collected QB Tom Brady threw for 3 TDs, two to WR Wes Welker, as they brought the Bengals back to reality.  NEXT: @JETS

WR Sidney Rice was not playing, WR Percy Harvin, was not at 100% and QB Brett Favre not being at training definitely took a toll on the Viking offense.  QB Brett Favre was out of sync with all his receivers, with TE Visanthe Shiancoe being the exception.  Another week in practice will definitely help so look for them to bounce back this week.  NEXT: DOLPHINS

Charger coach Norv Turner has an awful record in September and that trend continued against the Chiefs.  The Chargers, having superior talent, had no business losing this game but give credit to the Chiefs defense. They stopped QB Philip Rivers 4 times at their goal line in the final minute of the game to prevent the tying score. NEXT: JAGUARS

THE RAIDERS:

If I were to do a full ranking list... the Raiders would be placed 28th out of 32 teams.  The team has the potential to leap from the cellar the AFC West but showed no improvement against the Titans.  They were gashed for over 200 yards rushing and looked horrid on offense.  Whether it be jitters or just bad play, the offense was confused and out of sync the whole game.  Raider QB Jason Campbell was on his ass most of the game and held the ball too long on most occasions.  The lone bright spot?  RB Darren McFadden was 5 yards shy of rushing for 100 yards and had another 55 yards receiving.  Look for the Raiders to finally get out of this funk against the Rams and have their offense be on the same page.  Their defense should be more than effective against the young Rams, who have 9 starting rookies on their team, including their shiny new QB Sam Bradford.  NEXT: RAMS

Motivational Monday - Age

Hey there.  I love the NFL!  I'm glad that it's back.  Look for my Heavy Metal Rankings to hit tomorrow, once the Monday night games have come to pass.  I used to do all 32 teams, but I'll be honest... It's tough to rank them all so I'll just do the top 9 (cause that's how I roll) and provide some personal thoughts on my Oakland Raiders (yeah, I'm serious).  lol  But boy, and I happy the NFL season started and some real good football has taken place!  And to start it all off was the Vikings vs the Saints on Thursday night.  I was excited to see a old fashion shoot out... What we got was an aging Brett Favre with no receivers and a Saints offense that were not quite in sync yet.  Except for a few plays here and there, Favre looked every bit of 40.  Still... I hope he does well this year, but it will be tough with out his top receivers!  So here's to you, old man Brett.  Good luck!

Heavy Metal Rankings NFL Week 4 2009

Hey there friends. Injuries is the name of the game for week 3 of the NFL. Key injuries to some teams may hinder their chances for playoff hopes or simply guide them to throw in the towel early. Chad Pennington, Frank Gore, Marion Barber to name a few of the key players who are out. Let's take a look at the rankings.

1. New Orleans Saints 3-0 (prev. #1)

QB Drew Brees continues to fire it up while taking care of the Buffalo Bills last week. He didn't do it alone though. RB Pierre Thomas came back and ran over the Bills to the tune of 120+ yards and 2 TDs. If the running game continues to be as explosive as the passing game, I don't see anyone in the league outscoring the Saints. Next: New York Jets

2. New York Giants 3-0 (prev. #3)

QB Eli Manning made it look easy against the pathetic Tampa Bay Bucs. A swarming defense and a smooth offense simply was too much for the Bucs to handle. They should continue to roll with another cake walk game against the Chiefs. Next: @Kansas City Chiefs

3. Minnesota Vikings 3-0 (prev. #4)

QB Brett Favre shows the world that his arm still has some of that magic left. After trailing the impressive looking 49ners, Brett Favre relied on his arm to lead his team to a victory with 2 seconds left in the clock. As cliche as it may sound, it never gets old to see a last second TD for the win. Will Brett need to rely on his magic against his old team? Next: Green Bay Packers

4. New England Patriots 2-1 (prev. #8)

The New England defense must have been tired of people calling them done because they showed up to play against an up and coming Atlanta offense. Atlanta QB Matt Ryan had no answers for the stout defense as they held Atlanta to a mere 10 points. If QB Tom Brady can take care of the Baltimore defense this week, then we can proclaim that Tom is back to top form. Next: Baltimore Ravens

5. Baltimore Ravens 3-0 (prev. #9)

Baltimore is looking like a team to beat in the NFL. The only reason they're not ranked higher is because they need to play a formidable offense (sorry KC and Cleveland, you guys don't count). The next coming weeks have them against New England and Cincy. We will be able to better gauge this team once we see how well the defense plays. Next. @New England Patriots.

6. New York Jets 3-0 (prev. #6)

QB Mark Sanchez continues to impress as he's avoiding the costly mistakes and leading the Jets into their third straight victory. The Titans were desperate for a win and the Titan defense definitely keep them at bay. If the jets can pull out a victory over the red hot Saints, heads will turn. Next: @New Orleans Saints

7. Indianapolis Colts 3-0 (prev. unranked)

The Colts had some shaky moments this season and the fact that they only had the ball for under a quarter 2 weeks ago was cause for concern for the defense. Indy QB Peyton Manning put the team on his back, now that DL Dwight Freeney is injured. He threw for 4 TDs as he dispelled the Cardinals. Next: Seattle Seahawks

8. Pittsburgh Steelers 1-2 (prev. #5)

The Steelers are beginning to worry me. Steeler QB Big Ben is good enough to win games on his own (week 1) yet the Steelers are staring at a 1-2 record. Without their star defensive player Troy, the Steeler defense is average, at best. It won't get any easier with the Chargers coming up next. Next: San Diego Chargers

9. Atlanta Falcons 2-1 (prev. #2)

Atlanta was humbled by the Patriots. What we learned from that game is that if QB Matt Ryan cannot connect with TE Tony Gonzalez, the Falcons are in trouble. Look for teams to follow suit and take away that weapon from Atlanta in the coming weeks. Next: Bye

My Oakland Raiders 1-2: The Raiders continue to disappoint. In a matchup against division rival, Denver, the Raiders put up little to no fight. Denver easily marched up and down the field with the Raider defense doing little to stop them. Raider QB JaMarcus Russell continues with his struggles with accuracy. Raider coach Tom Cable has stood by his QB and named him the starter in week 4 but if the bad play continues, we may see the young QB pulled in favor of the back up. WR Chaz Schilens is scheduled to return this week. Maybe he'll be the one to spark a fire to this lethargic offense. Next: @Houston Texans

Heavy Metal Rankings NFL Week 3 2009

Hey there. Another week of NFL football is now in the books and another week of great games have been witnessed. Dallas unveiled their new stadium, Philly showed what they can do without QB Mcnabb and Oakland took their slogan, "Just Win Baby" quite literally. On the the rankings.

#1 New Orleans Saints 2-0 (prev. #3)

Can anyone beat the Saints? QB Drew Brees continues to light up the score board, scoring almost 100 points in 2 games. The man is on pace to break all kinds of passing records if this offense continues to play in "god" mode. The Philly defense kept the Eagles close in the first half but they failed to show up in the second half while Drew Brees cut them up for 31 second half points. Next @Buffalo Bills

#2 Atlanta Falcons 2-0 (prev. #1)

QB Matt Ryan is feeling pretty good now that he has a go to receiver in TE Tony Gonzalez. He threw for over 200 yards and 3 scores against the Panthers, despite Carolina RB Cadillac Williams and WR Steve Smith had great games. @New England Patriots

#3 New York Giants 2-0 (prev. #8)

QB Eli Manning showed his worth to this team by doing something that Dallas QB Tony Romo has not, lead his team to a win in a big game. The Giants battled the Cowboys in the brand new Dallas stadium. Despite not have a go to receiver, Eli has found several receivers to pick up the slack. None more than up and coming WR Mario Manningham, picking up 150 yards and a score. @Tampa Bay Buccaneers

#4 Minnesota Vikings 2-0 (prev. #6)

The gunslinger we all know and love may be no more as Minnesota QB Brett Favre continues to step aside to the RB Adrian Peterson show. The problem with the Vikings is that they are starting games slowly, letting the Lions have a halftime lead before putting them to sleep in the second half. Next: San Francisco 49ers

#5 Pittsburgh Steelers 1-1 (prev. #5)

The Steeler running game is beginning to worry me. Despite them losing to the Bears, they could have come up with the win if not for missed field goals by K Jeff Reed, they could have come up with a win against a hot red Chicago QB in Jay Cutler. Next: @Cincinnati Bengals

#6 New York Jets 2-0 (prev. unranked)

Young Jets QB Mark Sanchez is looking like a season veteran, outplaying the Patriots QB Tom Brady. He may not have had impressive numbers but he managed the game well and relied on a balance passing and running attack to take down the mighty Patriots. Next: Tennessee Titans

#7 Philadelphia Eagles 1-1 (prev. #2)

Second string QB Kevin Kolb had himself a great game, throwing close to 400 yards and 2 TDs. The problem? He was up against the QB Drew Brees and the Saints. The Saints defense allowed the Eagles to stay in the game but once Drew got going, they simply blew the Eagles out of the sky. Next: Kansas City

#8 New England Patriots 1-1 (prev. #4)

Is it time to panic in New England? The Patriots did not have an answer to the Jets offense. QB Tom Brady looked confused and fluttered and did not look like anything of the cool and collected QB of Super Bowls past. The defense has definitely suffered this year and if the offense cannot bail them out, the Pats will have a mediocre season at best. Next: Atlanta Falcons

#9 Baltimore Ravens 2-0 (prev. unranked)

The Baltimore Ravens are relying more on QB Joe Flacco and the offense than their legendary defense. That doesn't mean that the defense doesn't have it's moment in the sun. With time running out, LB Ray Lewis tackles Charger RB Darren Sproles for a loss on 4th down to secure the victory for the Ravens. Next: Cleveland Browns

My Oakland Raiders 1-1 : What an ugly game for the Raiders. Negative 7 yards for the first quarter. Are you kidding me? Raider QB JaMarcus Russell simply looked awful. His accuracy seemed to diminish from the San Diego game. Against Kansas City, he throws for a little over 100 yards with about 70 of those coming on the final drive of the game. Quite frankly, the Raiders had no business winning this game. KC out played the Raiders and out gained them by over 200 yards. With all that, the Raiders came up with the victory. Al Davis preaches, "Just Win, Baby" and the Raiders definitely just won the game and did little of anything else. Next: Denver Broncos.

Heavy Metal Rankings Week 2 2009

Hey there. What a great weekend of football that was! We saw some pretty close games that were taken to the wire, we saw the return of Brett Favre and Tom Brady, and we got our first real glimpse of how the teams measure up to each other. I had the Pats in the top spot last week, but after seeing how their run defense is not up to par (maybe they miss Tedy more than they believed), I have to knock them down. Check it out.

1. Atlanta Falcons (prev. #4)

Altanta was the only team in my rankings that actually looked good last week. QB Matt Ryan and his new TE Tony Gonzalez are a forced to be reckoned with they showed the NFL world that there are here to play. Their defense isn't too shabby either, completely flustering the Dolphin defense. They should have no problem taking care of Carolina's Jake Delhomme and his horrible play. Next: Carolina Panthers

2. Philadelphia Eagles (prev. #8)

Philly looked great on offense. They seemed to imposed their will on the Panthers. The big question mark now is QB Donovan McNabb's cracked ribs. I don't see them beating the very potent New Orleans Saints this week. Next: New Orleans Saints

3. New Orleans Saints (prev. unranked)

Has anyone looked better in the pocket these last 2 seasons than QB Drew Brees? The man is on fire and he continues to light up the score board, torching the Lions for 350+ yards passing and 6 TD passes. Even with RB Pierre Thomas out for the game, RB Mike Bell stepped in and ran over the Lions to the tune of 140+ yards. Next: @Philadelphia Eagles

4. New England Patriots (prev. #1)

The Bills should have won the game against the Patriots if not for that costly fumble on the kick off return. QB Tom Brady is showing that his knee is working out great and he looks just as fearless as ever before, but without that stout defense of years past, Tom may be asked to carry this team, and then some. Next: @New York Jets

5. Pittsburgh Steelers (prev. #2)

QB Ben Roethlisberger put the Steelers on his shoulders and willed them to a victory last week in a tight game against the Titans. In a game where field position was key, the running game was a liability for the Steelers (only 30 or so yards for the game!). You don't win many games when your team rushes for less than 40 yards a game. Next: @Chicago Bears

6. Minnesota Vikings (prev. unranked)

QB Brett Favre makes his debut... and manages the game??? That's right. This is not Brett Favre's team and more RB Adrian Peterson's team. The RB ran for an astounding 180+ yards against the Jets to ease Brett's transition. If Adrian continues to run at this pace, he will shatter the 2000 yard mark! Look for him to have another incredible game against the lowly Lions. Next: @Detroit Lions.

7. Tennessee Titans (prev. #3)

The Titans matched up well against the defending champs and nearly came away with the victory. The defense looked great, despite the departure of Albert Haynesworth, and held the Steelers to 1 TD for the game. Next: Houston Texans

8. New York Giants (prev. #9)

The lack of a go to wide receiver for QB Eli Manning was apparent against the Redskins. Eli passed the ball to several receivers but when they needed the speed and strength of Plaxico Burress, the Giants fell short. The return of DE Osi Umenyiora is a huge boost to this defense. The defense came up with 3 sacks, and interception, and 2 forced fumbles. That defense will need to be in top shape now that they'll be traveling to Dallas. Next: @Dallas Cowboys

9. Green Bay Packers (prev. unranked)

The Pack was in a defensive battle with the Chicago Bears on Monday night, with the Pack just edging out the Bears. I don't know if that bodes well for the Packers, a team with Super Bowl dreams. Chicago QB Jake Cutler threw 4 interceptions and despite that, the Packers were behind in the fourth quarter. If not for the blown coverage by the Bears and a great pass to WR Greg Jennings in the final minutes of the game, the Pack could very well be down 0-1 in their division.

My Oakland Raiders: What a game against the San Diego Chargers! This was a definitely a game of two halves. The Raiders simply beat up on the Chargers in the first half. They ran all over their defense and RB Darren McFadden and RB Micheal Bush gashed them and drove down the field. The defense was just a good as the running game, with newly acquired DE Richard Seymour making an immediate impact in the game, recording 2 sacks and assisting in many tackles. The passing game is what hurt the Raiders. QB JaMarcus Russell is still having issues with accuracy. He over threw many passes and to wide open receivers too. The only bright spot in the passing game continues to be the Raider's TE Zack Miller. He had 96 yards receiving, coming up huge on several third down situations. That doesn't mean that the receivers didn't get theirs. WR Louis Murphy had 87 yards receiving and is developing to a go to receiver for Russell. Considering that the team believes that WR Chaz Schilens is their best receiver, the wide receiver corps may finally be coming of age. Next game: @Kansas City Cheif

Heavy Metal Rankings Week 1 2009

Hey there. It's time of year again, FOOTBALL SEASON!!! Whoo hoo! About time. I can't stand this down time of sports (I'm not a huge baseball fan). Now that we have some meaningful football slated for Thursday, it's time to roll out this week's Heavy Metal Rankings. I was a little green in this field last year. I went ahead and ranked every team from 1 to 32, but I can't do that. Too much analysis and too much time to be able to continue that kind of ranking system. So, I am going to change it up this year and provide a top 9. So here we go, Week 1 rankings are as follows:

1. New England Patriots

C'mon now. This should not be a surprise to football fans everywhere. New England was scary last year with Tom Brady out for all but half a game and the Pats were still feared across the NFL. Now that Brady is back, and looking pretty damn good, there's no reason why the Pats will not be better than they were last year.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers

The transition from coach Cower to coach Tomlin has not hurt this team at all. They are always in the mist of things come January. Big Ben is showing no signs of a decline and with a defense like that, how can they not be a force to be reckoned with.

3. Tennessee Titans

People will be surprised that the Titans are so high in my rankings but the Titans looked sharped in all of their preseason games. Kerry Collins is doing more than just managing the game, the offensive line is one of the best in the NFL. That, coupled with an improved Lendale White, the Titans will have a strong running game to match a very capable passing attack.

4. Atlanta Falcons

Tony Gonzalez has single handedly increased Atlanta's stock. Matt Ryan did OK last year in the passing game. Now that he has an experienced and strong TE in Gonzalez, look for the passing game to overshadow the strong rushing attack from Michael Turner.

5. Indianapolis Colts

The team is in a semi-transitional phase. Coach Tony Dungy is out and coach Caldwell is in. Future Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison is out, but that doesn't mean that Peyton does not have go to receivers. Dallas Clark, Anthony Gonzalez, and Reggie Wayne are more than capable of being on the receiving end of Manning passes. As long Peyton Manning is at the helm, the Colts cannot be overlooked.

6. Arizona Cardinals

I am a little reluctant to place this team so high. The team is run by Kurt Warner's emotions. He lead the team to the Super Bowl last year and it will be difficult to match that intensity for a second straight year. If Warner starts to slip, we may very see Matt Leinart taking the reigns.

7. San Diego Chargers

The Bolts are always in the mist of things but they can never get over the hump. LaDanian Tomlinson is healthy this year and the passing game should be top notch. The X factor for the Bolts is Shawne Merriman. He gives the defense the boost it needs to be a Super Bowl champion caliber defense but his off the field antics can derail the team just as easily.

8. Philadelphia Eagles

Here is a team that may make it all the way this year. The Eagles had one of the top defenses last year but lacked the offensive firepower to put them over the top. Now that their wide receivers are coming of age and Micheal Vick is in the line up, the Eagles can very well catapult themselves into the upper echelon of the NFL.

9. New York Giants

Eli Manning is coming back to prove that he is worth every penny that the Giants paid him in the offseason. That may prove difficult since he's lacking wide receivers. Especially now that Plaxico Burress is going to jail and David Tyree is no longer with the team.

My Oakland Raiders. Dead last in the NFL. The Raiders looked good in the first 2 preseason games and then quickly regressed into the horrid team that was under Lane Kiffin in the beginning of last year. Flashes of greatness was shown by both JaMarcus Russell and Darren McFadden. The trouble continues to lie in the defense but the Raiders have shown that commitment to excellence by signing pro bowler DE Richard Seymour. Until I see results on the field, I'll be the first to say that the Oakland Raiders are still stuck in the bottom of the barrel.

The Oakland Raiders and The Michael Vick Signing

Hey there. I'm a huge football fan. I follow football and all news that is football. I had my Heavy Metal Rankings last year that took a lot of time to compose, but I'm bringing it back this year as a top 10 list as opposed to a league wide ranking system. Yesterday was the first preseason game for my team, the Oakland Raiders. I've been a fan since forever and I was looking forward to finally see my team in action. Even though it was only a preseason game and the starters would not be on the field for the full 60 minutes, it provided me with a sense of, "YES! Football!" lol I hate, HATE, the summer months. Not only does the heat get to me, there's no sports to watch. Sorry people, but baseball is such a bore to me that it's not even considered a sport in my book. Once the basketball season is over, there isn't a sport out there that will get my adrenaline going and no reason to have some guys over for a game and a few brews. So to see my Raiders on the screen and kicking some ass was definitely welcomed.

I love what I saw. The timid JaMarcus Russell that started for the Raiders last season is gone. Last night's Russell was consistent and poised. He stood in the pocket, he didn't eye his receivers through the whole route, he looked left and right scanning the field well, and even ran for a good 18 or so yard run. This is the QB that will take the Raiders places. Not the guy from last season that made it easy for the defenses to read and take apart. The Raider team as a whole looked real good. They spoke confidently and walked tall. They look like a team to be reckoned with. The running backs were superb. Especially Darren McFadden. And considering that we have three strong backs in Fargas, McFadden, and Bush, we should have a very strong running game that should soften the defenses up for Russell and his receivers. Speaking of receivers, Chaz Schilens looked outstanding. Last year, Russell looked for his TE Miller for completions but Russell looked comfortable passing to his WRs. We even saw a few bombs launched by Russell to rookie Darrius Heyward-Bey. I believe that once the timing between these two is right on, they are going to be a deadly combo. Heyward-Bey has speed and Russell underestimated his speed and he under thrown the first pass to him and on the next, he over thrown the pass. One thing is for sure, the Raiders are looking very capable of making some noise in the AFC West.

The Raiders were not all offense either. Their defense stepped up and stopped the Cowboys in goaline situations and the Cowboys were never really in rhythm. The only touchdown for the Cowboys came on Romo's last drive of the first quarter. Michael Huff even came up with an interception and there was constant pressure on the Cowboys QBs. Their run defense is better, but still needs some work. That's the one of many areas that coach Tom Cable has addressed to his team. The Raiders look like a team that is listening and their look and demeanor convey that. The Raiders are finally moving on the upswing and showing the commitment to excellence that owner Al Davis has been preaching for decades. Preseason game or not, when your team can put a 31-10 beat down on your opponent, you are doing something right.

Now, on to Michael Vick. While driving home from work, I started listening to ESPN Radio, in hopes of hearing about the Raider game, instead I hear about the breaking news... Michael Vick signs a 2 year deal with the Eagles. We all know the story of Mike Vick by now. The guy ran, or funded, a dog fighting ring where many dogs were seriously injured and killed. He claimed that he didn't know it was wrong since he grew up around dog fighting rings and what not. The man paid his debt to society and spent almost 2 years in jail. The commissioner, who I believe is doing one hell of a job, conditionally reinstated Vick, allowing him to sign with a team, but not play in a game until the commissioner makes his final decision on whether or not to fully reinstate Vick.

Many fans are divided on the Vick signing. Some strongly feel that he should not be allowed to play, others feel that he should deserve a second chance. The one thing that is going for Vick is that he has Ex-Indy coach, Tony Dungy as a mentor. Tony Dungy is a class act guy. Everyone respects him and when he talks, players listen. Having Tony by Vick's side made his signing possible. Let's face it, the Eagles signed Vick, knowing that he is under the watchful eye of Tony Dungy. If Vick did not have Tony as a mentor, I do not believe that he would of signed with any team.

Even the Eagles owner did some "soul searching" before approving Vick's signing. I praise the owner, not for signing Vick, but for having the stipulation that if Vick is not proactive in anti-dog fighting campaigns, then his tenure with the Eagles is done. That takes guts. Imagine your boss coming up to you and says that you'll be fired unless you spend a good 10 hours a week at the local YMCA for community service. Many of us would say hell with that, not because we don't want community service, but because we know that we can get another job elsewhere that will not require us to work an extra 10 hours a week without pay. Vick does not have that luxury. The Eagles' owner is making it known that Vick MUST work for his spot on the Eagles and you have to give him huge praise for that.

People make mistakes. And those of the criminal kind, pay their debts to society with jail time and then are released back into that same society without any guidance what so ever when they have paid their debt. It's difficult to be reinserted without guidance. Looking at a job application, it clearly asks if you've been charged with a felony and if you've been in jail. They claim that the information will not be taken into account when the job decision is made, but let's be real. If it will not be taken into account, then why the hell would you ask? Just to know? It's BS, if you ask me. Imagine Vick trying to get signed by a team without someone with credibility backing him. He wouldn't be able to do it. They'll look at him as a criminal, someone that's a liability to himself and their team. But because he has Tony on his side, teams can see that he's on the right path. He's being guided by a man that the NFL highly regards as it's personal Jesus. If you have Jesus backing you up, that stigma of a criminal does not have as much weight as it had before. Mike Vick should be thanking his lucky stars that Tony Dungy exists. If not for him, Vick's career would have been over in 2007. Tony Dungy will not allow his name to be tarnished by Vick. If Vick screws this up and blemishes Tony Dungy's name, Vick will have truly committed the ultimate crime and should forever be labeled as the biggest screw up in NFL history. Later.

#2 Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1) Last #2 - High #2 - Low #5

Big Ben was solid for 216 yds and 2 scores in putting the hammer down on the Bengals, but it was RB Mewelde Moore who stole the show by running for 120 yds and 3 scores (2 rushing and 1 receiving) He averaged 6 yds per carry in dismantling the Bengal defense. Next week's clash of the titans will be one to watch. Week 8 NYG

#3 New York Giants (5-1) Last #4 - High #1 - Low #4

The G-Men bounce back after that horrible lost to Cleveland. A win is a win, but what an ugly win against a struggling 49ner team. Eli was good or 161 yds and 1 score while leading rusher RB Brandon Jacobs rams in 2 more with only 69 yds on the ground. The Giants are going to get back to early season form if they are to stand a chance at Pittsburgh. Week 8 @ PIT

#4 Buffalo Bills (5-1) Last #6 - High #4 - Low #10

QB Trent Edwards returns and instantly made this team a contender. They kept the Bolts in check with their defense with the man of the hour being LB Kawika Mitchell, who not only had a key interception in the 4th qtr but also had a fumble recovery. Divisional foe, Miami, will need to get that wild cat ready since the Bills seem to have a strong grip on the AFC East. Week 8 @ MIA

#5 Carolina Panthers (5-2) Last #8 - High #5 - Low #8

The Carolina defense came to play against the Saints after taking last week off. So much so that they limited the mighty NO QB Brees to only 7 points all the while knocking out their RB Reggie Bush for approx. 4 Weeks. Kurt Warner, you've been warned. Week 8 ARI

#6 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-2) Last #3 - High #3 - Low #9

No room for error in the tough NFC East so the Bucs made sure they put the beat down on the Seahawks to stay tied with the Panthers for the top spot. QB Jeff Garcia throws for 310 yds and a score. The Seahawk defense did not have an answer for WR Antonio Bryant who torched the secondary for 116 yds and a score, the first of the season for him. This show goes on the road against a dysfunctional Dallas squad. Week 8 @ DAL

#7 Washington Redskins (5-2) Last #9 - High #2 - Low #9

The Skins almost let another one slip away against a rejuvenated Cleveland defense. RB Clinton Portis wasn't having it, willing his team to victory with 175 yds and a score. The man is averaging 5 yds a carry for the season and is on pace to rush for over 1500 yds this season. He looks to continue his 100 yard rushing game (4 straight) against a weak Detroit defense. Week 8 @ DET

#8 Atlanta Falcons (4-2) Last #5 - High #5 - Low #15

Sitting on the sidelines this week knocked the Falcons from first to third in their division race. After showing poise and resolve against Green Bay in week 6, they look to match that intensity against a struggling Eagles team. Week 8 @ PHI

#9 Arizona Cardinals (4-2) Last #7 - High #7 - Low #14

Kurt Warner and crew rested their bones, as well as that high powered offense this week. The Cards are averaging almost 30 a game this year. WR Anquan Boldin will most likely be sitting this game out, since it's been announced that he suffered a concussion and multiple facial fractures. Will the week off slow down this high flying offense? The Carolina defense won't make it any easier. Week 8 @ CAR

#10 Chicago Bears (4-3) Last #15 - High #8 - Low #15

The Bears won a shootout! Let that phrase sink in folks. The Bears, the smash mouth team that will ram it down your throat has developed offensive fire power. Anyone that is still shouting for Rex's return should be shot. QB Kyle Orton has taken the reigns out gunned Viking QB Gus Frerotte in a clash of divisional foes. This offense coupled with that defense is making this Bears team look scary. If only they can keep it consistent. Hopefully, the BYE week won't screw it up. Week 8 BYE

#11 Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) Last #14 - High #11 - Low #22

The Jags stock rose this week despite them sitting on the sidelines. Mainly because their divisional rival Colts lost. The team needs to find their identity if they are to make a push for the playoffs. Being 3 games behind the Titans, they need to surge now if they hope to make the playoffs. Week 8 CLE

#12 Green Bay Packers (4-3) Last #20 - High #12 - Low #20

QB Aaron Rodgers one ups Indy QB Peyton Manning by scoring a TD. The Green Bay defense showed up picking off Manning twice and running them both back for TDs. The ailing team needs the BYE to regenerate some of that mojo that they lost from that 3 game losing streak. Week 8 BYE

#13 Philadelphia Eagles (4-3) Last #18 - High #13 - Low #18

QB McNabb and company did what they had to do, put the beat down on an inferior team. If only they can take it up a notch and take down some superior teams for a change since they are the bottom dwellers of the NFC East. Week 8 ATL

#14 Baltimore Ravens (3-3) Last #20 - High #14 - Low #20

Is this defense getting old? They gave up over 100 yards on the ground, no INTs, only 1 forced fumble, but it did have 3 sacks and this old dog took care of that wild cat, stuffing the Dolphins whenever they got into that wild cat formation. Week 8 OAK

#15 Indianapolis Colts (3-3) Last #10 - High #10 - Low 15

What the hell is wrong with the Colts? QB Peyton Manning looks briliant last week in dismantling the Raven D and now looks like a lame duck against an ailing Green Bay team. Week 8 @ TEN

#16 New England Patriots (4-2) Last #22 - High #11 - Low #22

QB Matt Cassel has one efficient game against that dead ugly Denver defense, tossing 3 TDs and 185 yds. The New England RBs combined for 257 yds rushing, with RB Sammy Norris leading the way with 138 yds. Week 8 STL

#17 Denver Broncos (4-3) Last #12 - High #7 - Low #17

This Denver defense is going to sink this team. Not even the legendary John Elway can lead this team to victory when the defense coughs up big plays on a consistent basis. Week 8 BYE

#18 Dallas Cowboys (4-3) Last #11 - High #4 - Low #18

How much farther will this star fall? Coach has acknowledged that it's time to "worry". Not a smart move. Defense is now suspect and without QB Romo to save thier ass, there's going to be a lot of hurting in Dallas. Week 8TB

#19 New Orleans Saints (3-4) Last #17 - High #17 - Low #23

QB Brees torched the Raiders last week and what does he do this week against the Panthers? Nothing, absolutely nothing. And to make matters worse, RB Reggie Bush may be out up to 4 weeks due to injury. Best of luck trying to stay afloat in that tough NFC South. Week 8 SD

Awful, awful game for the legend QB Brett Favre. He was only able to muster 197 yds and threw 2 picks against a more than suspect Oakland defense. I'm certain he'll take it out on Chiefs next week. Week 8 KC

RB LaDainian Tomlinson is not having his best season, and the Bolt's record reflects that. Whether he's up for the challenge or not, the Bolts win or lose on LaDainian's play. Week 8 @ NO

With QB Jeff Garcia at the helm (QB Brian Griese has a bum elbow), the Bucs showed an impressive running game, stampeding all over the Carolina defense. RB Warrick Dunn ran for 115 yards on 22 carries, while QB Garcia completed 75% of his passes (15/20 for 173 yds and 1 TD) . The Bucs came out with an early 14 point lead and never looked back. Bucs coach, Jon Gruden, has announced that QB Griese will be his starter against the Seahawks this week. Week 7 SEA

#4 New York Giants (4-1) - Last #1 - High #1 - Low #4

Eli Manning and crew struggled early against the Browns, entering half time down 17-14, and the troubles continued through the rest of the game, handing the Giants thier first loss of the season. Eli Manning, looking to score, tosses another INT (3 total) in the 4th qtr, which is returned 94 yards to put the nail in the coffin. Week 7 SF

#5 Atlanta Falcons (4-2) Last #15 - High #5 - Low #15

The Falcons are showing the NFL that they mean business. They posted an impressive win against an Aaron Rodgers led Green Bay team and now, they defeat a strong defense in Chicago. K Jason Elam had missed a 33 yard kick that would have given them the lead. Instead, it turned to a TD for the Bears on the following drive, leaving 11 secs in the game. After a squibb kick, Atlanta has a fighting chance, starting at their 44 yard line. Showing some fight, QB Matt Ryan hits WR Micheal Jenkins for a 26 yd catch, leaving 1 sec in the game. K Jason Elam comes out and redeems himself by kicking a 48 yarder winning the game. Week 7 BYE

# 6 Buffalo Bills (4-1) Last #10 - High #6 - Low #10

The Bills expect their starting QB Trent Edwards to return to the line up this week against a surging San Diego team. Sitting atop the AFC East, nothing is in stone considering that the Jets look to make a move while the Pats and Dolphins are still looking for an identity. Week 7 SD

#7 Arizona Cardinals (4-2) Last #14 - High #7 - Low #14

The high flying offense of QB Kurt Warner hosted Dallas and showed some fight against America's team. Despite the running game being non existent, the Cardinals won this game on defense, forcing 3 fumbles and limiting Dallas WR Terrell Owens to only 4 catches. After a bogus call against the Cards, Dallas scored 3 in the final seconds to go into over time. After stopping Dallas, the Arizona special teams unit comes up big blocking the punt attempt and scoring the TD, earning the Cards a big W against Dallas. Cardinals look playoff bound in the weak NFC West. Week 7 BYE

#8 Carolina Panthers (4-2) Last #6 - High #6 - Low #8

What happened to that Carolina defense that posted a donut against the Chiefs? QB Jake Delhomme, having one of his worst games ever, tosses 3 INTs, limiting the time the offense was on the field. When he wasn't throwing INTs, he was over throwing his receivers, and when the ball did hit the receivers, the receivers simply dropped the ball. The football gods must have been frowning on the Panthers because what could have gone wrong, did. They better hope they get their act together because the Saints are marching in. Week 7 NO

#9 Washington Redskins (4-2) Last #2 - High #2 - Low #9

Washington fell victim to playing down to their competition. After showing strong wins against Philly and Dallas, the pesky Rams put a damper on their parade, losing the game on the final play of the game. The Skins didn't help their cause, fumbling the ball away on three occasions. The bright spot? RB Clinton Portis' streak of 100 yard games continues with this being his third. Week 7 CLE

#10 Indianapolis Colts (3-2) Last #12 - High #10 - Low #12

QB Peyton Manning came alive against a stingy Baltimore defense, shredding them for 271 yards and 3 scores. 2 of those TD passes came to the dormant WR Marvin Harrison. The Indy defense did their best impersonation of the Baltimore defense, forcing Baltimore QB Joe Flacco to toss 3 INTs, and creating 4 fumbles, 3 of which the Indy defense recovered. Week 7 @ GB

Soft Rocks

#11 Dallas Cowboys (4-2) Last #4 - High #4 - Low #11

The Dallas star is falling and it's falling fast. The 'Boys had many chances (some would argue that it was with the help of the refs) to put the Cards away and they just couldn't do it. Despite QB Romo having great passing numbers (321 yds, 2 TDs) he fumbled 3 times losing 1 to the Cards. To make matters worse, QB Romo is out for 4 weeks with a broken pinky finger. Week 7 @ STL

#12 Denver Broncos (4-2) Last #7 - High #7 - Low #12

Turnovers killed the Broncos. 2costly fumbles and an INT was all it took to assure that the Broncos would not come back against the Jags. JAGS RB Jones-Drew ran all over the Denver defense cutting them up for 125 yards and 2 scores. A game at New England may be what the doctor ordered to get them back on track. WR receiver Brandon Stokely may be out since he suffered a concussion during the game. Week 7 @ NE

#13 New York Jets (3-2) Last #21 - High #13 - Low #21

Brett Favre is looking more and more comfortable in the Jets offense. Despite having a sub-par game (189 yds, 1 TD, 2 INTs), RB Thomas Jones scores 3 TDs (2 rushing TDs and 1 receiving TD) to pull out the victory over the win less Bengals. Week 7 @ OAK

#14 Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) Last #22 - High #14 - Low #21

Solid play by QB David Garrard (276 yds, 1 TD) and a strong running game by RB Maurice Jones-Drew (125 yds, 2 TDs) kept the Broncos at bay, keeping them on pace in the tough to determine AFC South. Week 7 CLE

#15 Chicago Bears (3-3) Last #8 - High #8 - Low #15

The Bears defense had the worst 11 seconds of the season. The game seemed done after QB Kyle Orton tosses a TD to WR Rashied Davis with 11 seconds left in the game. After an awful kick and a deep pass, Atlanta was in prime position to take this game from the sleeping Bears. Week 7 MIN

#16 San Diego Chargers (3-3) Last #16 - High #16 - Low #16

The Bolts put away a hapless New England team. On the brink of mediocrity, QB Philip Rivers tosses for 306 yards and 3 TDs. RB LaDainian Tomlinson is yet to break for the big one, but he's nearly there, rushing for 74 yards and receiving 44 yards more. Week @ BUF

#17 New Orleans Saints (3-3) Last #23 - High #17 - Low #23

QB Drew Brees completes 87% of his passes (26/30 for 320 yds and 3 TDs) against an atrocious Oakland defense. QB Brees completes 16 consecutive passes before one finally hits the field. RB Reggie Bush is good for 2 TDs (1 on the ground and 1 in the air) to handily put the beat down on the Raiders. Week 7 @ CAR

#18 Philadelphia Eagles (3-3) Last #18 - High #18 - Low #18

The Eagles fought back to .500 with a win over the struggling 49ners. With the 49ners leading 26 to 17 after 3 qtrs, QB Donovan McNabb leads the eagles to 23 4th qtr points to put the 49ners in their place. Week 7 BYE

#19 Minnesota Vikings (3-3) Last #13 - High #13 - Low #19

Fumbles were the name of the game, with RB Adrian Peterson coughing it up twice (111 yds rushing). If not for an incompetent Detroit QB Dan Orlovsky running out of his own end zone, causing a safety, this game could have very well been decided on the overtime coin flip. Week 7 @ CHI

#20 Green Bay Packers (3-3) Last #19 - High #19 - Low #20

QB Aaron Rodgers tosses for 208 yds and 2 TDs against the Seahawks, to keep them in a three way tie in the mediocre NFC North. Week 7 IND

The team took a huge hit with that dismal showing against the San Diego Chargers. After looking to be alright after QB Tom Brady's injury, QB Matt Cassel is struggling to keep this ship afloat. Week 7 DEN

QB Derek Anderson and WR Braylon Edwards hooked up 5 times for 154 yds and a score to pull the upset against the top ranked Giants. The defense came up big, scoring a TD on 1 of Giants QB Eli Manning's 3 INTs. Week 7 @ WAS

#24 Miami Dolphins (2-3) Last #17 - High #17 - Low #24

The Wild Cats, I mean Dolphins, almost came up with another big win. The Dolphins are now 2 games behind the division leading Bills. Week 7 BAL

Ring leader QB Matt Schaub runs it in with 3 secs left in the game to lift the Texans over the Dolphins, showing QB Rosenfels how it's done. Week 7 DET

There's rumors flying that star TE Tony Gonzalez may be traded. Gonzalez may be a Giant before the night is over. Week 7 TEN

After staying on top of the Eagles for 3 qtrs, the 49ner team decided to call it a night and decided not to play defense or offense in the 4th qtr, allowing 25 unanswered points. Week 7 @ NYG

QB Charlie Frye tosses a dismal 83 yds, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs against the Packers. You can't win the game if your top receiver only had 23 yards. Week 7@ TB

Good start to the Jim Haslett era by getting a big win against a good Washington team. K Josh Brown hits a 49 yarder in the final seconds of the game to put the Rams in the win column. Week 7 DAL

The Oakland defense took a monstrous step back by taking a siesta during the game against New Orleans. Defensive coach Rob Ryan better get that defense on the same page or he'll soon find himself right next to Lane Kiffin, in the unemployment line. Week 7 NYJ

What Super Bowl hangover? The G-men are looking strong and kicking ass. With the exception of Washington, the Giants have been served some pantsy ass teams the beginning of their schedule (Wins against Rams, Bengals, and the ailing Seahawks). They'll get two more cupcake games agains the Browns and 49ners before we really find out what this team is made of (week 8-11, @PIT, DAL, @PHI, BAL) Week 6 @ CLE

#2 Washington Redskins (4-1) N/A N/A

The Skins are looking impressive under young QB Cambell, a surging Clinton Portis (145 yrds and a TD) and a defense that is holding it's own, with a strong goal line stance against Philly this week. The Skins have quality wins over Dallas and Philly, and their only loss comes from a tough Giants team. Look for the team to go 6-1 before being tested by a tough Steelers team. Week 6 STL

#3 Tennessee Titans (5-0) N/A N/A

Big, big win against the Baltimore defense this week. Despite the Ravens having top ranks in defensive pass, rush, and total yrds/game, the Titans hold the top defensive spot in total points allowed/game (11.2/game). They held the Ravens to 10 pts and needed a 4th qtr rally to come back and win the game on 80 yard TD drive. Despite the Titan RBs having 47 total rushing yards, QB Collins kept a cool head and managed to pull out the victory against the Ravens. They have a potential trap game against the Chiefs next week, before hosting divisional rival, Colts. Week 6 @ KC

#4 Dallas Cowboys (4-1) N/A N/A

Tough lost for the Boys against the Skins last week, and they almost fell victims to a desperate Cincy team. After going up big on the Bengals, the Dallas defense decided to take it easy and allow QB Carson Palmer to fight back and come up big with get the Bengals within 1. With minutes to go, Dallas QB Romo led his team into the Red Zone, only to have his pass deflected and fall into the arms of Dallas WR Crayton.If not for that catch, Dallas would have settled for 3, giving Cincy one more shot at winning the game. Week 6 @ ARI

#5 Pittsburg Steelers (4-1) N/A N/A

The Pittsburg defense is keeping the team afloat. The defense ranks in the top 5 in all defensive rankings and as long as they keep them in the game, Big Ben has a chance to take them over the top, as demonstrated in the final 2 minutes of the game against the Jags. Big Ben looked like a rag doll, being sacked 3 times and hit many more than that. Steelers had no business winning this game since the Jags definitely played better. The BYE should serve this team, and especially Ben, a chance to recover and recoperate. Week 6 BYE

# 6 Carolina Panthers (4-1) N/A N/A

The lowly Chiefs didn't have a chance against this superb defense. Kansas QB Huard, and then QB Thigpen, were just beatened down like a dirty rug. Huard threw 2 INTs and between the Kansas QBs, sacked 3 times and just barely surpassed the century mark in passing yards (113 yards combined). On the Panther's side, RB DeAngleo Williams ran wild against the atrocious Kansas defense, running for 123 yrds (2 TDs) and caught a pass for 25 yrds (1 TD). The man was a beast for us fantasy players. Let's see if they can keep it up next week against a non cupcake defense in Tampa Bay. Week 6 @ TB

#7 Denver Broncos (4-1) N/A N/A

How the hell does this Denver team keep winning? Their defense ranks 26th or lower on the 4 major defensive ranks and yet, they're sitting atop the AFC West. The answer? QB Jay Cutler, that's how. If he plays well, the team will win. Simple as that. On his one bad game, against the Chiefs, he was not able to bring the team back from RB Larry Johnson's dismantling of the Denver defense, becasue he was watching the game on the side lines. Even against a good TB defense, Cutler managed to bring his team back from a bad game to squeeze out the victory. Week 6 JAC

#8 Chicago Bears (3-2) N/A N/A

Just what the Bears QB Kyle Orton needed, the bottom dwellers of the NFL to showcase his talent. Orton threw for a career high 334 yrds, and added 2 TDs in thier win against the Detroit Lions. That is not to say that the Bears defense didn't do their thing. They sacked the Lions QBs 4 times, forced a fumble, intercepted QB Orlovsky (familiarize yourself with the name, friends. If QB Kitna continues his horrible play, we'll be hearing Orlovsky more often) for a TD. Week 6 @ ATL

#9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) N/A N/A

Tough loss for the Bucs to swallow this week, knowing that they had thier chance to put away the Broncos but the Bucs QBs just could not get it done. QB Brian Greiese was knocked out the game by his former team in the third qtr, and QB Jeff Garcia faired slightly better, tossing a TD and an INT. I dont know if they wanted to win this game in the air but with RB Warrick Dunn and RB Earnest Graham averaging 6 yrds/rush, why would you abandon the running game. Jon Gruden lost this game for the Bucs. You don't abandon the one part of the game that is actually working for you. Week 6 CAR

#10 Buffalo Bills (4-1) N/A N/A

QB Trent Edwards was knocked out of the game (concussion) and so was the Bills offense. Edwards was kocked out in the 1st qtr and his replacement, QB J.P Losman was not able to sync up with the offense. Thier only highlight being a 87 yrd pass to Lee Evans for a TD. After that, it was all QB Kurt Warner and crew. Warner threw for 250 yrds and 2 TDs, the defense forced 1 INT, 3 fumbles, 5 sacks, and RBs James and Hightower rammed in the end zone for a combined 3 TDs. QB Edwards is the heart and soul of this team and luckily for the Bills, the bye week is coming up. Week 6 BYE

On a night where the Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson was held in check by a Saints defense, the Minnesota Vikings secured a win due Saints K Gramatica missing a field goal with 2 mins to go. His second missed kicked in the final minutes of a game. Week 6 DET

Cards QB Kurt Warner has been erractic these past 2 weeks. Looking like the old man that he is last week against the Jets, and like the MVP that he once was this week against th Bills. The MVP needs to show up against a tough Dallas squad if they plan on winning. Week 6 DAL

Big win against Green Bay this week. Atlanta RB Michael Turner cut up the Green Bay defense for 121 yrds and TD and QB Matt Ryan soared with 194 yrds, 2 TDs and an INT. Week 6 CHI

The Bolts were the latest victim of the surging Dolphins. Despite the Chargers having the worst pass defense in the NFL, the Dolphins beat them in the ground game (167 yrds rushing). Week 6 NE

Is this a college team or a professional football team? With the success of the "Wild Cat" formation paying dividends, don't be surprised if this team brings back the statue of liberty play. Week 6 @ HOU

Big loss against their division rival, Washington, this week. Issues at the goal line has lost 2 games for the Eagles. Philly RB, Brian Westbrook, broke 2 ribs in this game. He finished the game, but you have to wonder how that is going to affect this team. Week 6 @ SF

Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers put on his best Brett Favre impersonation and went on and started the game, despite having an injured shoulder. Despite his 313 passing yrds and 3 TDs, Atlanta QB Matt Ryan and RB Micheal Turner proved to be too much for his Green Bay defense. Week 6 @ SEA
