Picture of the Day - Orion

Constellation Orion
Hey there. I love space. I love the stars. I love the unknown. But you know what I don't love? That I haven't been able to capture a nice picture of the stars. Generally, when I attempt to take a pic with my camera or my phone, the stars disappear and I end up with a picture with nothing but the black void of space. But now... my brand new tripod has allowed me to keep my camera steady for longer exposure times, giving the opportunity to capture awesome pics like this one!

The picture was taken with a 30 second shutter speed and.... that's pretty much all I can tell you. lol I've never taken pictures with longer exposure times so I definitely took random shots while experimenting. Also, because it was pretty dark out, with the exception of the neighbor's outside door light, I couldn't really aim my camera well, so I just aimed my camera towards Orion and hoped for the best. That guess produced this awesome orange/red glow of the trees in the backyard while the constellation sits right above the tree line.

I need to experiment more in taking shots of the stars. Right now, the nigh sky has been a bit cloudy due to an expected rain storm ("storm") that is hitting southern California. But let me know what your experience is in taking pictures of the stars? Any tips? What do you think of this one? Let's hear it in the comments, friends!
