Day in the Life of Driving to Los Angeles, the Death of Buffets, and the Covid Vaccine

Metallman
I'm tired, guys. I'm beginning to feel yesterday's jog. I'M SORE!!!

Hey there. There wasn't too much to talk about today. I spent about 3 and half hours of the day driving to and from work and didn't get much down time. But that doesn't mean I didn't have any thoughts and conversations. Let's get into it.

Driving to Los Angeles

Telecommuting is awesome. I get to sleep in until 7:15 am and I get to work from the comfort of my home. I also have the added benefit of being to hang out with my family during down time, making us closer as a family unit. However, once a week, I need to commute to work. I live about 60 miles away from my work location so the commute not a fun one. I need to get up at 5:15 am... drive about an hour and half to work, and then get bombarded with paperwork.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about work... what I'm having trouble with is re-adjusting myself to the early commute. I think that telecommuting has engrained itself into my work life that I think I'm going to have a little bit of a tough time re-adjusting to my, "normal", commute when the time comes.

The Death of Buffets

As much as I love telecommuting, I do miss the interactions and conversations to be had with coworkers. Today's topic, over lunch with the guys, was food and how food places may adapt after Covid leaves it's mark. The consensus is that buffets will be the ones that will be taken out or changed significantly. Gone will be days where a single serving spoon will be handled by many people. Open trays, lined up in a row, will be things of the past. It sucks because I'm a huge foodie and I love to try out different foods and buffets offered me a place where I can try something different and if I didn't like it, get something I know I'll like without an additional cost.

But it wasn't just the food... it was conversations to be had in places like this. Chatting it up with the wife and kids while they tried something new was awesome. It opened up the conversation to learn a little more about your family and of yourself. Who knew that you liked coconut shrimp? The kids like asparagus? Really? Never would have thunk it. And then there are the conversations. Chatting it up with the family over a meal is something that many people take for granted. In our, "Go! Go! Go!", society, everything needs to be done quickly. Hell... some of us even eat quickly. So to be able to just sit, eat, chat, and reconnect is something that will many of us will sorely miss.

Covid Vaccine

Another conversation that was had today involved the Covid vaccine. A friend of mine went through Covid and as he was discussing symptoms, the conversation shifted to thoughts on the vaccine. Personally, I think that the vaccines are a bit rushed and are being pushed on the American people without really testing it out fully. Just look at the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. I knew that was going to be bad news when that vaccine was developed (and approved) within a matter of months. Now... that vaccine has been pulled and is no longer being distributed at this time. I just don't feel comfortable taking a vaccine that I feel hasn't been put through the wringer for safety.

Don't get me wrong, though, I'm not saying that you shouldn't take the vaccine. If you are comfortable and are willing, by all means do it. The goal here is to make sure we are all safe. I'm just saying that I'd rather take a more thoroughly tested vaccine than one that I feel was rushed out.

Watching Spooky Stuffs

It's nearly 11 PM now and it's time to settle into our nightly routine of watching spooks. The wife tend to look for scary shows to watch or simply turn it to YouTube and look for ghost videos and what not. We've recently found ourselves tuning in to Nukes Top 5 spooky videos.

Now this stuff fascinates me. Not so much scares me... just fascinates me. Dark shadows lurking in cemeteries, ghostly apparitions haunting abandoned places, weird looking "things" lurking around in common living spaces. I know that there is definitely something paranormal out there that we are simply uneducated on and when I see crazy videos like the stuff on Nukes Top 5, I just can't stop watching.

So that was pretty much my day. How was yours? What kind of nightly routine do you have to settle in the for night? What are your thoughts on the Covid vaccine? Are you sad to see buffets go? Let's hear it in the comments, friends! Later!
