I Need to Attach a Front Panel to a Computer

Hey there. I like to fix computers as a hobby and I've been fortunate to hve been able to fix any machine that has been brought to my attention. The other night, a friend needed 3 machines to be fixed. 2 laptops and a desktop computer. The laptops will be fine, once I am done with them... Its the desktop that I'm a little concerned about.

The desktop looks a little odd. It's missing a front panel and when I opened it to see what's going on, someone cut the front panel wires and rigged it with a completely different set of wires (different colored ones too) and I was surprised to see something so half assed. I have an extra computer that I keep for spare parts and since the desktop needs new wiring, I'm glad I have the spare computer to take them from. The mission now is not only to get the machine on, but also to attach a whole new front panel to it. I've never done that before so this will be m first with this issue. I don't want to say, "I couldn't fix it" so I'm gonna do by best to get it going. Wish me luck! Later!

  1. Wow that seems like an insane amount of work. Now did they do this fix themselves? Or they took it someone and they did the half assed job?

My dealings with computers and fixings are reinstalling Windows lol. Not I have installed new Ram in my husbands old 10 year computer, and a new video card,. Because ya know I do need to be able to play games.

Oh yes and good luck with the rewiring!

Now we have a new one because his old monitor died. Which he yelled at me about. Because I did something. NO I need computer to live, I just don't go around breaking things because I want something new. So he went out to buy a new monitor... and came home with a brand new computer all around. He's crazy.

  2. Hey there Alison,

I can definitely say that someone did it themselves. I definitely was NOT taken to a shop. Even the power button if from a completly different machine and they simply glued a big chunk of it to the front of the machine to keep it in place. I need to take some pics of it and put them in this post. Maybe I'll do that tonight.
