2014 NFL Week 2 Metal Power Rankings

Hey there.  What an awesome start to the NFL season!  Week 1 is in the books and we have already had some thrilling games and some unexpected outcomes!  Who would have thought that the Dolphins would beat down the Patriots in a convincingly fashion?  The Packers looked mediocre against that stout Seahawk defense. The Falconts take down the Saints in overtime!  The Eagles down by 17 or so points to the Jaguars and STILL getting a victory by 17!  Talk about high flying offense!  Before we get to rankings, let's see how I did on my picks.  I went 6-4 last week (6-4 overall).  Not too bad... I'm over .500 so that's good.  lol  Now let's see if your team made it into my top 9.

2014 NFL Week 1 Metal Power Rankings

Hey there.  Remember the NFL power rankings that I used to do years back?  Of course you don't.  lol  I started them off and wouldn't even finish the season.  But I'm going to follow through with it this time around.  I love sports and I love football and I watch plenty of football during the season to know a thing or two about ranking the top teams.  So here's the layout that I'll be using... I'll rank the top 9 teams and the Oakland Raiders (yeah... I know... they'll probably won't be in the top 9 but this is my rankings so I'll include them if I want to.  lol).  I'll give a little blurb about this week's matchup and a prediction for the game.  No scores, just straight up who I think will win the game.  I'll keep track of my predictions every week and see how we do at season's end.  New rankings will go up every Tuesday this season (I know today is Thursday, but I decided to bring this back last night) so make sure to come back and see how well I did in predicting the games.  So let's get to it!

Whoo hoo!  The Winter X Games on ESPN!!!

You can catch all the action at ESPN.  You can catch all the previously recorded streams on ESPN or you can catch the live streams of events on ESPN.  It's a great way to catch up or watch events on your laptop or mobile devices with an internet connection.  But it doesn't just have to be the X Games.  There are many live events that ESPN is constantly streaming so I strongly suggest you head on over there check out thier schedule of upcoming events.  Being a sports fan, I don't want to miss events and with ESPN live streaming, I don't have to.  And neither do you.  Later!

Join Fantasy Feud for All Your Fantasy Sports Needs

Hey there.  I love sports.  So much so, that I take part in fantasy sports all the time.  Fantasy football is my game.  For 17 weeks, I get to be the GM of my team (the name of my team is ALWAYS Creeping Death) and I get to battle friends for a full season for football supremacy!  But now that the NFL Playoffs are coming to an end and fantasy football is done and done for the year, I decided to check out some of the other fantasy sports for the first time.  I joined a few free leagues and tried out more than a few websites.  After about a month of trying out different sytsems and websites, I find that the guys over at Fantasy Feud do it best!

JayBird Bluetooth Headphones are Perfect for Active Lifestyles

Jaybird Logo
Hey there.  If you live an active lifestyle, you have to have quality headphones.  It's a must.  You see many commercials on TV for headphones and with so many being advertised, it can be fairly difficult to choose which ones are for you.  I've had the pleasure of trying out many headphones throughout the years and I have found that each one is suited for a particular lifestyle.  Whether it be active, casual, or flashy, there is something out there for you.  I'm an active guy, so I want to see what's out there for the sports enthusiast, for the active guy, like myself.  And guess what... I think I found a great pair.  Check out these awesome bluetooth headphones by JayBird.  Perfect for gym rats like my wife and I and great for those of us that use headphones during sporting practice.  Why?  Well, because they are WIRELESS!  I simply cannot stress enough how awesome it is to have a wireless set of headphones.  It makes a world of difference when it comes to providing you with unrestricted mobility.  The last thing you want is to have the ball hit a wire or have your arm caught in the headphone wire.  It's simply more practical to use a wireless set.  Now, let me tell you why the JayBird headphones may be for you.

Floyd Mayweather Makes Fight Entrance with... Justin Beiber?!

Wait... what?!?!
Hey there.  Like millions everywhere, I watched the Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez fight this weekend.  Although many expected Mayweather win the fight, you can't help but to watch to see if anyone out there can challenge him.  But before the fight even go under way, his introduction and entrance raised more than a few eyebrows.  Is that... Justin Beiber walking with Mayweather???  Really?  The Beibs?  HIM?!  What the...  It looks like I wasn't the only one that noticed.  Check out The Daily Rehash's reaction to the Justin Beiber escorting Mayweather to the ring.

A Young Man and Summertime Sports

His first of what I hope is many sporting events for the boy!
Hey there.  The weather is getting warmer and it's time to get the kids outside and have them play some sports!  I'm glad to see that the kids are FINALLY beginning to show more interest in sports.  Especially my oldest.  He's an athletic guy and I've been waiting for him to decide that he is ready to start playing.  I don't want to be one of those overbearing parents that dictate their kid's hobbies.  I let him be and when he's ready, he's ready.  He can play baseball, football, and basketball and he seems more suited for baseball or basketball.  Come to think of it... he can even do track too!  He's expressed much interest in running as well!  Almost forgot about that one!  lol  I say that the boy (14 yrs) will do in anything that he puts his mind in.  I'm sure that once he's in high school, he'll make that final decision, but until now, we'll play basketball and we'll go out and throw the baseball around.  We end up throwing the baseball more than anything else, actually, and I think he's beginning to find his sport.

Thoughts On... The 2012 - 2013 Los Angeles Lakers Season

# 7 Lakers vs # 2 Spurs!  NBA Playoffs!  I love this game!
Hey there.  I'm a huge sports fan.  I strongly support the Los Angeles area teams but really, I'm just a fan of the sport.  Whether it be basketball, football, hockey, or baseball, I'll support the local teams because I just love the thrill of competition.  For as long as I can remember, I have been a Lakers fan.  I've seen them win with Magic Johnson, I've seen them win with Kobe and Shaq, I've seen them miss the playoffs, I've seen thm steal Pau Gasol from the Grizzlies, and I've seen them assemble this "super team" of Steve Nash, Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant, and Dwight Howard.  This season was to be season where the Lakers steam rolled through the NBA.  The season where the Lakers play the unstoppable force going up against the NBA.  Last night, the Lakers made the NBA playoffs... as the 7th seed.  It's been a tumultuous season for the Lakers.  Mostly frustrating, partly exhilirating, all with a touch of Hollywood drama.  Here are my thoughts on the Los Angeles Lakers 2012 - 2013 NBA season.

ThunderStruck Movie (Starring Kevin Durant) Combo Pack Giveaway

Hey there. Who here is a sports fan? Specifically, the NBA? I love basketball. I'm a huge fan of the Los Angeles Lakers! Last year, the Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder had a playoff series for the ages. Many considered it the passing of the torch in the Western Conference. I didn't. I expect the Lakers to bounce back this year and avenge that playoffs series lost! If you watched the series, you may have noticed how atheltic and skilled the young Kevin Durant is. The young man is making a name for himself in the NBA and he's going to be a forced to be rekoned with for years to come! But I bet that many of you know that he starred in a family friendly film! For those of you looking for a wholesome film starring NBA All Star Kevin Durant, you have to check out his film, ThunderStruck! The movie is set to be released on 12/4 but our good friends at Warner Bros. have reached out to me and have provided a copy of the movie, ThunderStruck, for me to giveaway to one of you, my faithful readers! Check out this brief synopsis of the film:

Egraphs are the Autographs for the Digital Age

Egraphs.com
Hey there.  I'm a sports fan.  I've attending a few sporting events and I've always dreamed of having one of my favorite players sign something for me.  Whether it be a picture, towel, ball, whatever.  I just want to say that I have my favorite player's picture and have that to cherish for the rest of my life.  The problem?  It's tough to get anywhere near your sports idols these days.  And having things signed is great and all... IF YOU TAKE PRISTINE CARE OF YOUR ITEM.  The last thing you would want is to have it smudge, stained, torn, or lost.  That's why I think that these Egraphs are pretty awesome!  Check it out!

Thoughts On... the Dallas Cowboys Defeating the New York Giants 24 - 17

Dallas Cowboys 24 - New York Giants 17
Hey there.  Are you ready for some football?!?!  I sure am!  I hate the few months leading up to football season because the only sport that is on TV is baseball.  Even though I played in a softball team for 2 seasons, I just can't watch the sport on TV.  It's just not my cup of tea.  So now that football is back, sports have been reinserted into my life!  I love football and couldn't be more excited that the first game of the season finally kicked off!  So here are my thoughts on the opening game of the 2012- 2013 NFL season between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants.

The NFL Season is Just a Few Weeks Away

Hey there.  Who is ready for some football!?!?!  I know I am.  I have been ready.  I'm a huge football fan and it pains me when we have to go through the 6 months or so of no football.  The preseason has already started and we now have our first glimpse of all of the teams and many of them have new looks.  Some of the more exciting story lines include Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck, and Peyton Manning a Bronco.  I, however, am a loyal Raider fan and I would love to see if we can improve from last year and make the playoffs!  Another great thing about the football season starting is FANTASY FOOTBALL!!!

Thoughts On... The Thunder Beating the Heat in Game 1 of the NBA Finals

Thunder Win Game 1 105 - 94
Hey there.  Tonight the NBA Finals tipped off.  The Oklahoma City Thunder are set off to go against the Miami Heat.  This should have been a Celtics Vs Lakers finals but those two teams bowed out a little earlier than expected.  The Heat outplayed the Celtics in their 7 game series and Thunder took it to the Lakers and took them out.  Anyways, this is not a post about coulda, woulda, shoulda... this is about the Thunder taking game 1 from the Heat and why Miami should worry.  After watching the first game of this series, thoughts came to mind and here they are.  My thoughts on... the Thunder taking out the Heat in game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Thoughts on... Manny Pacquiao losing to Timothy Bradley

Hey there.  On June 9th, the sport of boxing took a huge blow.  Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao went up against the undefeated Timothy Bradley in a match that was to test the skills of Bradley against a superior opponent.  Very few gave Bradley a chance.  As the announcer, Max Kellerman, said this is a fight between a good fighter and a great fighter with Pacquiao being the great fighter.  After 12 rounds of boxing, a decision had to be made, but in the eyes of everyone watching the fight, Pacquiao won in a landslide.  That is.. everyone but the 3 judges judging the fight.  In a shocking decision, Timothy Bradley defeated Manny Pacquiao by a split decision.  A decision that not only rocked the sporting world, but rocked all social media as well.

The Kids Showing Interest in Music and Sports

Great job, boy!
Hey there.  When I was in middle school (let's go Edison EAGLES!) I was introduced to a lot of extra curricular activities.  There was the ROTC team, music, running, basketball... It's one of those times in your life where you decide which path to take.  I could have done the sports thing.  I love sports and it would have been great to jump into that, but as many of you know, my love was invested in music.  I went the musical route and devoted my middle school life to that.  Yes, my friends.  I was a band geek.  But that doesn't mean I didn't participate in sports activities in school.  I also did some running for the school and did a few relay races and mile runs.  Nothing too fancy, mind you, but it was done.  With all things considered, it's pretty awesome to see that the kids are following suit.  Check it out.  The boy in his first cross country run (The Long Beach Middle School Cross Country Championship) and my oldest daughter in her first orchestra recital.

Thoughts on... The OKC Thunder Beating the LA Lakers 4-1

OKC wins Games 5 106-90 and the series 4 games to 1.
Hey there.  Tonight, the young guns took out the veteran dogs.  The OKC Thunder has taken out the Los Angeles Lakers from the NBA Playoffs.  Aside from Game 1, an OKC blowout, this has been a hard fought battle.  Each game decided in the final minutes in the 4th qtr.  It was essentially what NBA fans want to see.  Star players going at each other trying to will their team to victory.  Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden took it to Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Andrew Bynum.  The problem for the Lakers?  Kobe was the only one that showed up to play most of the series.  Here are my thoughts on the OKC defeating the LA Lakers in the NBA Playoffs.

Thoughts on... The OKC Thunder 30 Point Beatdown of the LA Lakers

Hey there.  I am a Laker fan.  Always have and always will.  Tonight, the new kids on the block, the Oklahoma City Thunder, have just given the Lakers a beat down in game 1 of the Western Conference Semis.  Yup... A 30 pt beatdown!  Technically, it's 29  but still, the Lakers should be embarrassed of themselves.  Aside from a respectable 1st qtr, the Lakers were not prepared to play.  Here are some thoughts on the series and on game 1.

Derrick Rose Hurt: Chicago Bulls Vs. Philadelphia 76ers Game 1

Derrick Rose clutches his knee during the Bulls 103 - 91 win over the 76ers
Hey there.  The NBA Playoffs are here!!!  I love basketball.  I love to follow the Lakers and all of the Hollywood shenanigans that follow them.  But once the playoffs start, I try to watch all the games because this is the top 16 teams playing for a championship.  The playoffs tipped off with Game 1 of the Chicago Bulls vs the Philadelphia 76ers.  The Bulls are superior team.  They should win this series easily.  With a strong line up of Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer, and Joakim Noah, the 76ers just don't have the players to match up with them.  With a little over a minute to go in the game, the 76ers chances got a little better:  Even though the Bulls took game 1 against the 76ers, their championship run took a big hit.  Derrick Rose is injured.
