Blogger Still Not at 100% and Posts are Missing... Is Jason Behind this Firday the 13th Mayhem?

Hey there.  As many of you may have noticed... Blogger had been down for approx. 16 hours or so and it's still not 100% back up.  After checking the status of Blogger, I find out they had to "temporarily remove" posts that we posted after 7am Wednesday morning.  I noticed that something was wrong yesterday when I could not log in to leave comments on other blogs.  That's when I decided to log on my own to see if it was just select blogs that were having issues or if all blogs were having an issues.  When I couldn't log on because the "service was not available",  I was upset.

The first thing that came to mind was the whole PSN hack thing.  I wondered if there was an "unauthorized user" roaming the Blogger servers creating havoc.  I quickly dismissed that idea, though.  I don't think there would be anything to gain, other than being malicious and posting your own stuff.  Then I got a little upset.  I usually have scheduled posts lined up for Funny Fridays, but that's not gonna happen since I can't browse the internet today for Friday funnies.  Then it hit me...  IT'S FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!!  Is Jason behind all this Blogger mayhem???  Did he finally trade in that machete for an ultra fast Alienware laptop???  hahahaha!
"I'm done slashin' and started hackin'!" - Quote from Friday the 13th: Jason Infiltrates CampCrystalLake.com
Anyways, it looks like Blogger is back up and running but posts are still missing.  I guess it's better to be able to continue with the service but I really hope those missing posts come back soon.  I also began to wonder what happened to my give a way poll (PS3 game) and how many potential comments I may have lost.  Well...  as long I didn't lose ALL of my posts, I can't be too upset and it's not like it was down for almost a month before getting any material news on the service.  C'mon Blogger, get those posts back up!  Later!

A Review of InkGrabber.com

Hey there.  You know, it's kind of tough to find quality printer ink without paying a lot of money for it.  This is one of the reasons why I've been out of a printer for so long.  I simply refused to pay so much money for ink.  But you know what... I have realized that I need a printer.  Especially now that my oldest son is in JR High and there will be a need to print out reports and essays.  So I'm on a mission to check out websites that sell printer ink to see where I can find the lowest price.  I'm not looking for cheap ink, I'm looking for ink that's cheap.  First stop:  InkGrabber.com

Right off the bat, I'm liking this site.  They have a listing of ink by brand on the left hand side while showcasing major brands right in the middle.  And to make it even better, they proudly display a coupon code on the right hand side to save me money on printer ink.  If a store is willing to give discounts right off the bat, I'm  definitely interested.  Upon clicking on a brand, a whole slew of printer models come up.  If they don't have what you're looking for, I'd be extremely surprised.  They seem to have a vast array of inkjet cartridges available for all kinds of printers.  That is a huge plus.  I distinctly remember having to buy ink cartridges at a store for my mother's printer and it was hit or miss on whether or not the store carried it.

After browsing around, I like how the site is organized.  You can clearly point and click on what you need and most importantly, the prices are more than fair.  And again, they offer discounts, not only through their ongoing promotions, but through Facebook as well.  Ordering is fairly simple and I like that there's a toll free number to call if you need assistance or looking for an update on your order.  All in all, a very decent online store for ink.  I definitely recommend you guys check it out for all your printing needs.  Later!

Classics V. Technology

Hey there.  You know, I was thinking about nature and what not and have decided that I want to start hiking.  Maybe even write about what I see and do while out and about with the family.  The problem?  If you don't have tough, rugged equipment, you will find your stuff torn by the elements.  Rocks, branches, brush... they will all nip and tear at your bags and what not.  I was telling myself that if I were to play a Henry David Thoreau type person, I would need my laptop to write about nature.  Hey, it's the 21th century.  lol  While Mr. Thoreau may have used ink and quills, I'm using a laptop.  Just at a glance, I would need a laptop messenger bag that is built for the elements. Something that will stand against nature or at least give my laptop a fighting chance of surviving.  How else am I going to write the next Walden without my laptop?

I've been on a mission recently to read more literary classics.  So far, I've read Catcher in the Rye and Siddhartha.  While more books are coming my way, I started to think how these classics would be written today.  Going back to Thoreau's Walden, I don't think we would be able to create such a masterpiece of solitude today.  There is technology everywhere.  Cell phones, laptops, smartphones, tablets...  Pen and paper have been replaced with keyboards and software.  Would Sheldon be so full of angst if he could take it out on a game of Angry Birds?  Would Siddhartha use GPS tracking to navigate through the jungles to find himself and total bliss?

It's awesome that tales from the past rely heavily on the art of story telling.  So while I'm trekking across rugged terrain, I can stop, look at my kindle and read up on some classics.  What books do you recommend?  There are still a few that I would like to own, like Billy Budd.  It's a short story but a good one nonetheless.  Later!

What's Going On

Hey there.  March 1st, that's today.  It is exactly 12 days away from finishing my 3rd year of blogging.  I can't believe that it's been close to 3 full years already!  I  was thinking of maybe doing some kind of give a away.  Maybe a game?  Maybe some cash?  Maybe some kind of prize?  I don't know just yet.  I've been thinking about it, I've just haven't decided what it will be.  Any suggestions?

Best workstation ever!
On a side note, I just wanted to fill you guys in and what's been going down on my side of computer.  My geek side has been pretty busy.  I unlocked my cousin's iPhone last night, I am working on fixing 2 more PS3s, and I have an XBOX 360 coming my way later tonight for me to take a look at.  I'm sure my wife is not thrilled about it.  I'm one those people that gets a little geeked out by this kinda stuff and will spend hours non stop working on all things tech. My wife made a comment to my cousin and his wife how she should dress up as some broken tech device so that I would pay attention to her.  lol

Things on the blogging side have been going well.  Just not as well as I would like.  I managed to get the computer at home working but I haven't been working much at home.  My time online has been tight and I manage to churn out a post or two.  I need to get on the ball with that and spend some more leisure time on improving my online stats.  I've also made a conscience effort to provide more comments on blogs.  I've been horrible at letting know that I've stopped by so that's being improved upon.

Midnight snacks are the best!
Working out has been good to me, I guess.  I missed my exercise check in last week (damn time restrictions) so I'll make sure that I have one in this week.  Most likely be done tomorrow or Thursday.  I don't feel as winded as I have before and the wife says that there is some subtle differences in my body.  But, I don't know if I'm helping the cause by having ice cream at midnight.  lol

I also had a so called "man date" this Saturday with the compadre and a friend.  That adventure will be detailed in an upcoming post.  lol

I know I'm forgetting some stuff but I'm sure that'll just come to me later.  So what's going on with you, friends?  What's new in the life of you?  Hope to hear from you soon.  Later!

Busted Computer

Hey there.  Computer at work is busted and the IT people have no clue what's wrong with it.  From what I know, there's no viruses or malware, but someway, somehow, all my document's extensions were changed to ".Encrypted".  And the crazy part is that it's baffling the IT dept.  From what I'm being told, no one there has experienced anything like it and their best "guess" as to what may have happened is that I was a victim of a "drive by encrypting".  lol  As in, something invaded the computer, encrypted my files, and then deleted itself.  If that's really what happened, it sounds like it's just some plain old malicious stuff.  I don't see any gain whatsoever for the created of said malware.  All my files are encrypted and I cannot access anything.  Not even my archived Emails which is going to be a pain in the ass for me to recover from since, believe it or not, I still go back and look for Emails that were sent back in 2007 or so.  If it comes down that all the files are lost, the boss will definitely not be happy.

I'm going to get a "new" computer and start from scratch while IT find out if they can recover any of my stuff.  Best of luck with that, friends.  Have you guys heard of anything that seems to encrypt your files without warning???  Later!

Mac or PC?

Hey there.  I've been a PC guy all my life.  PC's in school, PC's at home, and the laptop is a PC.  But you know what... I'm getting tired of the viruses and the updates and the pain in the ass methods that it takes to install drivers and what not just to get "easy" plug and play devices to work.  Because of this... I'm leaning on picking up a Mac laptop for business.

I've gotten good feedback from friends about them and some people even swear by them.  I'll admit that I don't know much about them, since I've been surrounded by PCs.  The only thing I do know is that Mac's are more expensive than PCs.  Does the old adage, "you get what you pay for" apply to computers?

My brother in law picked up a HP laptop for around $200 this black holiday and it's running Windows 7.  I was thinking of picking one up as well, but I'm tired of the slowness and the vulnerabilities of these Windows based machines.  Maybe I just need a change of scenery from the world of Windows.  Maybe it's simply time to jump ship and head on over to the world of Apple.  lol  I think I've already made my decision... but until I have an Apple machine in my hand, it won't be definite.  Until then, later!

I've Been Hacked

Hey there.  This morning, I woke to an Email from my friend Alison telling me that I've been hacked.  Apparently, I sent out some spam Email containing a link to some Canadian pharmacy selling pink viagra.  That was not me, friends.  My account was compromised!  I've already took action and did what I had to do to make sure it doesn't happen again.  So if you received an Email from me with a link in it, I'm sorry, but it wasn't me!  Thanks.

Affordable Family Friendly Education at Ashworh College

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Ashworth College. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hey there friends. I have many blogging friends that are stay at home moms. Which I think is great! There is nothing better than to be able to stay at home and spend more quality time with the kids. I wish I could do that... but I'm at work. Nevertheless, being a stay at home doesn't mean that mom's don't work. Besides the sack lunches, tending to injuries, being referee, and bringing down the law (of the household at least), a stay at home parent needs to find time to be themselves before they were mom or dad. Whether that be taking up an old hobby or getting back into school and getting that degree.

Getting back to school must be the most single thing most parents claim that they simply do not have the time for. Which may be true, if you are still speaking of school in the traditional sense. Now with many online schools, any parent, or working adult, can find the time to log online and attend school and work on improving your education. Because it's flexible and self-paced, so you can study whenever and wherever you like. Now that is ideal for any stay at home parent or working class citizen.

"But I can't afford school, Metallman. It costs too much money!" Not so, my friends. At Ashworth College, you can earn that Online degree and pay approx. 50% less than the average accredited online school and unlike other programs, you are guaranteed to graduate without student loan debt. Let me translate that for you... NO STUDENT LOAN to worry about AFTER you've graduated! And with over 100+ degrees to choose from, you will find the one that you have been wanting to achieve.
Being a stay at home parent is great, but have a backup plan ready for the when the little ones are more independent. With classes being attended online, there is no need to travel to a school when you can sit in the comfort of your own home and attend class. You've been helping your kids with homework through out elementary and middle school, with an online degree from Ashworth College, you can assure that you can continue to help them for years to come.

Problems with an iPod Touch

Hey there.  I'm usually the guy people turn to when their electronics are busted.  Busted XBOX 360? sure, I'll look at it.  Whacky computer?  I'll clean it out for you.  Electronic gizmos acting odd?  I'll figure it out.  It's been like this for as long as I can remember and you know what?  I don't mind.  I can be such a tech geek that I enjoy working on electronics for hours on end.  My latest project has been an iPod Touch that seems to have crapped out on it's owner.

I was first shown the iPod when it was stuck in recovery mode after it was synced with some questionable software.  After explaining the dos and don'ts of the iPod use... I went to work on it.  None of the traditional methods of resetting the device worked, iTunes refused to recognize it and the drivers on the machine were corrupted.  I spent a few nights trying different methods and different versions of iTunes in hopes of getting it to work and only after I downloaded the driver, restarted the apple mobile device support and many re-installs of iTunes, did I finally get the iPod to register under DFU mode.  I directed it to install the driver and iTunes finally recognized it and I was finally able to restore it.  YES!  Or so I thought...

I turned on the iPod and everything seemed well.  You can sync it to iTunes and can generally use the iPod now.  Yesterday, I find out that the guy cannot sync his iPod to their iTunes and when plugged in, the computer "sees" the iPod as a camera.  What a pain...  So I checked that out yesterday.  I reinstalled iTunes and tried to direct the iPod to the correct driver but I had no success with it so I decided to take it home and check that out.  When I got there, I went to work on it right away and after a few minutes, it synced up with iTunes without a problem.  Hmmm....  I went ahead and reset the iPod to factory settings any and took out a flash drive and copied some of my iTunes files and iPod files on it and plan on replacing the user's files with mine, since I now believe that the problem may lie in their iTunes install or the user might have corrupted windows files...  If that's the case, I'll try to repair the windows installation while trying to preserve their files but I'm hoping that it wont come to that.

I plan on visiting later today to check that out.  Wish me luck friends.  Later!

I Need to Attach a Front Panel to a Computer

Hey there. I like to fix computers as a hobby and I've been fortunate to hve been able to fix any machine that has been brought to my attention. The other night, a friend needed 3 machines to be fixed. 2 laptops and a desktop computer. The laptops will be fine, once I am done with them... Its the desktop that I'm a little concerned about.

The desktop looks a little odd. It's missing a front panel and when I opened it to see what's going on, someone cut the front panel wires and rigged it with a completely different set of wires (different colored ones too) and I was surprised to see something so half assed. I have an extra computer that I keep for spare parts and since the desktop needs new wiring, I'm glad I have the spare computer to take them from. The mission now is not only to get the machine on, but also to attach a whole new front panel to it. I've never done that before so this will be m first with this issue. I don't want to say, "I couldn't fix it" so I'm gonna do by best to get it going. Wish me luck! Later!

Make Your Own Movies Using Moviestorm and You Could Win a $2K iMac

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Moviestorm. All opinions are 100% mine.
Hey there friends. Have you sat through a movie and then thought to yourself, "Hey, you know what... I think I could have done a better job." Most of us have that thought. Whether it be in movies, music, or anything else that we believe to be pretty great at. And while many of us can write our own music, not many of get to direct a movie. It's just to a big a scale for many of us to experience first hand. Luckily, we have the Moviestorm application, a virtual movie studio, that allows us to take the directors chair right from from your computer.

While it's not taking the crew outside for filming, it does allow you to create animated movies while you orchestrate every detail. With the options to build your own set, customize your own characters, direct the action and film your movie, you have an endless array of possibilities to allow you creative mind to roam free. And with the option to add your own images (logos & backgrounds) and audio files (voice acting & sound effects), the movies you create are 100% unique. With enough practice, your creations may be even good enough for TV!

Don't believe me? Then check out the Moviestorm Challenge . They are so confident in their product that they are willing to give one lucky winner a top of the line iMac. Anyone in the world can enter and all you have to do is make a movie (intended for kids) well enough to get landed on TV. Any channel, any station. It doesn't matter as long as it's aired on TV. To enter, you must use Moviestorm and create you movie using the new Fun Land Pack. The content pack contains many kid friendly characters and backgrounds so it shouldn't be too tough to come up with suitable content.

Now, I mentioned that it is free to download to try out, but that will only get you the basics. For us serious movie makers out there, many sets, characters, and other goodies can be rented for your personal use. That's what makes this subscription based program so great. Instead of paying out a lot of money for many scenes, accessories, and what not that you'll probably never use, you can choose what you need and rent it out. It's really that simple. For about $8 a month, you can choose which content pack (which include horror, romance, sci-fi, etc. etc.) you would like you subscription fee to apply to. This eliminates the need to purchase expansion packs and if you decided to take a break from filming, you can do so without a hitch.

Get to it, friends. Make that movie and get it on TV to win a top of iMac computer. Check out the video below. An original piece from a regular Joe like the rest of us. This showcases what the program can do. Later!

Mr. Computer Repair Man

Hey there. I've been one busy beaver these past couple of weeks. I did some fixings at home and as soon as those were done, computer repair came knocking. I started the New Year with 0 computers to fix. To date, I've fixed 2 laptops and a desktop. I have 2 more desktops at home and another 2 busted machines are on their way (another desktop and laptop). It's a hobby of mine, so I do not mind helping out friends and family. The prob is that is that I do take some family time away to get the machines done. My wife has pointed that out to me many times. Especially since I don't charge family to fix up their machines. Last night, I decided that I am. I've been fixing machines for years now, and it's usually family. I started getting requests from friends of family and I don't think I'll be doing those machines for free.

So far, I've been fortunate enough that I have not come across a machine that I was not able to get working. The only snag I came across was a computer that needed a new hard drive since the one it had crashed. The owner pretty much said, screw it, and it's sitting in my shed. lol I think I'll end up getting a hard drive for it and then selling it. I don't have a need for a desktop computer so it would be pointless to keep it and it would be a shame to throw it away. Maybe have a contest and give it to the winner??? I don't know. Still got think about that one. lol Either way, with a little extra income coming in, I'm hoping we;ll be able to save up for that dream vacation a lot sooner rather than later. Until then.... Later!

Make Downloading Photos Easier with Eye-Fi

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Eye-Fi. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hey there friends. A week or so before Halloween, I invited some friends and family over for "Halloween Rockband". We all dressed up in our costumes and we enjoyed a few drinks and rocked the night away. But guess what... You, my friends, didn't get to see any of the pictures. Why? Because I have no idea where the USB cable is for the camera. It's extremely frustrating to have pictures sit in my camera's memory card. Halloween Rockband was not the only night that where I had a great opportunity to write and post pictures of an awesome night, but it didn't happen because I do not like to post about activities without pictures. If only I had an Eye-Fi SD card then I know I would get more pictures into the computer and more pictures into my posts.

Eye-Fi is a revolutionary SD card that has built in Wi-Fi. That's right, built in Wi-Fi that will enable you to transfer pictures to the web directly from your camera. No more cables, no more lost pictures, no more lost opportunities to post about some pretty awesome experiences. With a Eye-Fi SD card, you could easily transfer your pictures directly to Flickr, Picasa, Facebook, among other sites, as soon as you snap your picture. How great is that?!
I still have my pictures in my camera. It has gotten to the point where I don't even bother taking additional pictures because I have gotten discouraged with the fact that I can't download the pictures. Don't let this happen to you. You can pick your own Eye-Fi SD card Best Buy, The Apple Store, or Frys Electronics.

Do you need a little demonstration? Check out the video below to get a better understanding of how easy it is to use and download pictures. It is definitely something that you should check out. Later!

Special Deals at HP Will Get Me Replaced!

Hey there. It's me again. My master has not been pleased as of late. He read my thoughts on HP machines here and he let me have a mouthful. He called me all kinds of names and he pushed my buttons. He worked me hard to prove to him that I still have the "power and juice" to get through another night of intense World of Warcraft. I guess my 512 MB memory is just not enough for my master anymore. I did my best but after many frozen games, he simply gave up. He turned me off and tossed me aside. I know my master is still mad. I heard my master talking to the she-master about how I'm "just not up to snuff" anymore and that he's going to need a new laptop. My worse fears are coming true.
It's been two weeks since that shameful night. My master doesn't even bother to look at me anymore. I bet he's dreaming of owning a new a HP laptop. Especially now that he can get $30 off orders $150 or greater at HP Home Store by using coupon code SV2132.(Valid through 10/31 or while supplies last. Restrictions and exclusions apply) How do I know? I'm friends with the HP server and it gave me a heads up on potential deals that may entice my master to leave me. I've been blocking those deals from my master since then, but now that I'm not even being looked at, I'm at the mercy of HP.

I can see my master stationed at the old desktop computer. It's come to this... The old desktop computer is getting more attention than me. Why is my master yelling, "YES!"? Is he smiling? Did I just hear the she-master say that my master got a great deal? Oh look! He's coming towards me. Finally, some attention from my master. "Hasta la Vista", what do you mean by "hasta la Vista"? My master must be confused. I still run Windows XP. Maybe he bought a Vista upgrade and is planning on upgrading me. YES!

Wait a minute... Why am I being tossed in the shed???

Life Through the Eyes of a HP Machine

Hey there. I'm fully charged and ready to go. My master pulls me out of my bag once the evening is well underway. I don't know how much more I can take. His greasy fingers tap away at my keyboard (by the way, which doesn't even light up), leaving me sticky. His many windows continuously sap away at my RAM, causing my responsiveness to diminish. I haven't been cleaned and defragmented since I was fist purchased many years ago, wasting valuable storage room and constantly losing speed. My "spanking new" graphics card is now old news and I can't even run some of the newer PC games. I swear, it's like if I'm turning into an obsolete machine! Something like an IBM Thinkpad T21! *sigh*
How I wish I was one of those brand new HP HDX 16t. Now that is a machine of beauty. 16 inch HD screen, up to 3.06 GHz, Up to 8 Gigs of DDR2 memory, 1 Gig GeForce card, Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer, and many other perks! I'm lucky that my master has not purchased one of these notebooks. And I'm extremely lucky that he hasn't seen the discounts that HP is offering on a HP HDX 16t. In case you didn't know, you can get $500 off instantly when you purchase an HP HDX 16t with $300 coupon code NBN3248 + $200 Instant Rebate. Valid through 8/23 or while supplies last. Restrictions and exclusions apply.

Oh man, I hear him coming. It's time to struggle through another night of work. Maybe I should delete this post. I wouldn't want my master to purchase such an awesome machine and toss me aside. Or maybe even use me for spare parts! DELETE! DELETE! DELETE! Oh no! It's too late...
