The Nintendo World Championships are Back

Hey there.  The Nintendo World Championships are back!  After a 25 year hiatus, Nintendo will bring back the official Nintendo competition to crown the ultimate Nintendo champion!!!  If you were a kid in the 90's, you may remember hearing about the Nintendo World Championship.  Actually, you probably remember seeing the movie, The Wizard (starring Ben Savage... you know... the kid from The Wonder Years).  The movie is essentially about a gaming competition that this kid just has to compete in.  Coincidentally enough, Nintendo games and products are scattered throughout the movie.  The Nintendo World Championships are loosely based on the gaming competition in the movie.  But come to think of it... I think Nintendo was ahead of it's time.  We didn't have live streaming back in the 90s.  The event wasn't televised, at least not that I know of.  And if you wanted to see who won... good luck.  lol  But today... we have gaming competitions on practically every inch of the internet.  Super Smash Bros. competitions are HUGE so you can imagine how well received an official Nintendo World Championship Competition will be!!!

Nintendo Teams Up with Universal Studios

Universal Studios and Nintendo
Hey there.  Now this is interesting...  It was announced today that Nintendo has entered into a partnership with Universal Studios to allow Nintendo characters and Nintendo themed attractions at Universal Studios Theme Parks.  How cool is that?!  Universal Studios is known for having movie themed attractions so I'm curious to see how they'll incorporate Nintendo games.  Will be have a Super Mario Bros. obstacle course?  A Metroid themed roller coaster?  How about a shoot the target type game featuring Link or Zelda and a bow an arrow (lasers or light based attraction, of course.)?  I think the potential is there to have all kinds of fun at Universal Studios now that Nintendo is on board.  But... considering that Universal Studios is, in fact, a movie studio... is a Nintendo movie in the works?  Maybe a reboot of the Super Mario Bros. movie?  It's possible.  We'll just just have to wait and see!

Class Action Settlement Against Sony has Been Reached

Playstation Network Logo
Hey there.  You know, Sony and the Playstation Network has been in and out of the gaming news for past several years due to the PSN network being taken down or infiltrated by hackers.  Though Sony has tried their best to accommodate their subscribers and customers with freebies, some of us still feel the sting of our sensitive data being compromised.  Especially if you had credit card information store in your PSN account.  Well, it was announced today that a settlement has been reached in the class action lawsuit against Sony and you may be entitled to some more freebies as part of the settlement!

Weird Al's Tacky Music Video

Weird Al Yankovic Mandatory Fun
Hey there.  I've been a fan of Weird Al Yankovic since forever.  Aside from creating original music, Weird Al's claim to fame has been his own unique style of parody.  After 30 years of doing his thing, he finally hit the top of the charts with his latest album, Mandatory Fun.  That's right, friends.  Weird Al has the #1 album on the Billboard Top 200!  CONGRATS, AL!  And to celebrate, this week's Funny Friday will feature one of the many videos released to promote Mandatory Fun.  Here is Tacky, a parody of the hit song Happy.  ENJOY!  Later!

Thoughts On... Thor! The Goddess of Thunder!

Thor
Introducing Thor!  The GODDESS of Thunder!
Hey there.  Comics are filled with stories made of extreme fantasy.  We have super heroes and we have super villains.  We have parallel worlds and we have alternate universes.  Throughout comic book history, heroes have died and resurrected and died again many times over.  But you know what has never happened?  At least not that I know of?  A well known character changing gender!  That's right!  We've had alternate female heroes that mirrored their masculine counterparts (Power Girl, Bat Girl, etc.) in comics but Marvel is really changing the comic book universe by having the almighty Thor be a woman in the comics!  Here are my thoughts on... Thor the Goddess of Thunder.

Floyd Mayweather Makes Fight Entrance with... Justin Beiber?!

Wait... what?!?!
Hey there.  Like millions everywhere, I watched the Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez fight this weekend.  Although many expected Mayweather win the fight, you can't help but to watch to see if anyone out there can challenge him.  But before the fight even go under way, his introduction and entrance raised more than a few eyebrows.  Is that... Justin Beiber walking with Mayweather???  Really?  The Beibs?  HIM?!  What the...  It looks like I wasn't the only one that noticed.  Check out The Daily Rehash's reaction to the Justin Beiber escorting Mayweather to the ring.

Steam Family Sharing Enters Beta in Mid September

Hey there.  One of the things that many people love about Steam is the ease of being able to download an awesome game for an unbelievably low price.  Once you own that game, it's yours and will forever be tied to your account.  But what if there is one computer and multiple Steam accounts?  At this point in time, each account would need to purchase the game in order to play it.  Well... that's about to change!  Steam Family Sharing will allow game sharing on accounts that also share the same computer!  How awesome is that?!?!  No longer will your son or daughter have to use your personal Steam account to play games.  You can authorize them to access your games on thier personal account and they can now play your downloaded games.  The best part about it is that they will also have their own saved files and achievements tied to their accounts and won't affect your personal account what so ever.

Bring Awareness to Hepatitis with the Three Unwise Monkeys Campaign

Hey there. I have a cousin does awesome work at a local clinic.  One of her main functions is to drive awareness to dangers of unprotected sex.  She's constantly reminding the community of free HIV testing and she has participated in seminars in schools to make our youth aware of the disease.  Now, HIV and AIDS may be the sickness that gets headlines, but did you know that hepatitis is just as lethal?  A study by The Global Burden Disease showed that viral hepatitis was responsible for just as many deaths as HIV and AIDS.  That's a pretty big eye opener, no?  So I'm going to follow in my little cousin's footsteps and help bring awareness to the community.  Here are some details about hepatitis:

Thoughts On... the Xbox One

Introducing... the Xbox One!
Hey there.  It's here!  The big unveiling of the next gen Xbox console.  It's not Xbox Durango, it's not Xbox Infinity.  It's Xbox One!  I'm sure many of you reading this have already checked some, if not all of the 2 hour presentation earlier today.  I'm not going to get into the specifics.  There are plenty of websites with people way smarter than me that will break down the Xbox One specs for you.  I'm an average Joe that loves games.  I have some curiosities about the Xbox One and I have a few thoughts that came to mind while checking out the presentation.  So here are my thoughts on the Xbox One reveal.

February 12th is Pancake Day

Hey there.  Did you guys know that Feb. 12th is Pancake Day?!?!  As I was going about my daily business, I noticed that there was a lot of emphasis put on pancakes.  I thought to myself, well... maybe today people finally realized how awesome pancakes are and decided to show the world!  I mean, c'mon... pancakes are the perfect breakfast food.  When the family and I decide to have breakfast at a restarant, it doesn't matter where, I will order pancakes.  I love them that much.  But I must admit... I missed out on the Pancake Day fun.  I would have loved to have made pancakes for the family, or head on over to a local restaurant for some pancakes for dinner!  Hey!  Pancakes are great anytime of day.  Don't judge me!  lol  Anyways, I missed out yesterday.  But you know what... I don't need wait until next year for some pancake fun!

Nintendo Wii U Launches in the US

Hey there.  Anyone else excited about the Wii-U release this weekend?  I walked into a local game stop on Saturday night already saw people lining up to get their pre-ordered Wii-U.  It was a pretty insane sight, actually.  New York City was an even crazier sight!  To celebrate the Wii-U release on Nov. 18th, Mii characters roamed the streets of New York City on Nov. 16th!  Check out some of those fun pictures of that event!

US Senator Dianne Feinstein on SOPA and PIPA

Advocate for the people???
Hey there.  It looks like the internet and it's users won the battle against PIPA and SOPA last week.  That doesn't mean that the war has been won.  We need to stay on top of our elected officials to speak up for us and fight for our right to free speech.  Because I participated in the great "internet black out" on Jan. 18th, I made sure that my senator heard from me when I signed the online petition.  US Senator Dianne Feinstein heard my voice and responded with the below Email:

It would be amazing if something where to be able to bring this vast group to stand as one.  It's a task that would seem to be impossible.  Well... today... it happened.  Internet users and websites everywhere are taking a stand and striking against the proposed SOPA/PIPA bills that will soon be voted on by Congress.

Express Scripts No Longer a Part of the Walgreens Family

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
Hey there.  You know, when you have kids, it's almost a given that sometime during the year, you will be off in the middle of the night looking for an open pharmacy to get some medication for your your little ones.  It's inevitable.  I remember this particular time, a few years ago, when my young one had a nasty cough and we couldn't get it to calm down.  I was on the phone, calling pharmacies at 1 am in the morning trying to find one that was open.  Even though there were many 24 hour stores open, the pharmacies would be closed.  When I found out that my local Walgreens had a 24 hour pharmacy, I was off to consult the pharmacist.  Thankfully, the pharmacist pointed me to right medicine and I was able to help our young one get better.  Coincidentally, my prescription meds were covered by Express Scripts at the time.  If needed, I would have been able to get any prescribed medicine at the same Walgreens if I were to need it.  Why bring up Express Scripts?  Because Walgreens and Express Scripts could not agree on a contract and because of it, as of Jan. 1st, 2012, Walgreens will no longer be a part of the Express Scripts pharmacy provider network.
