Thoughts on... Oculus

Hey there.  I love horror flicks.  I am intrigued by the supernatural.  I think that Amy Pond, er... Karen Gillan, is awesome.  So when I find out that there is film out there that combines all three, I just had to check it out!  In a nutshell, Oculus is a film about a mirror and some spooky stuff that goes around because of it.  Brother and sister, Tim and Kaylie, vow to destroy it once and for all.  But can they get it done before the mirror does its spooky stuff on them???  Story doesn't sound original, but it does look intriguing, so when I found the film at my local Redbox, I couldn't resist.  I haven't done a Thoughts on post in a while so let's just lay out the ground rules before I get into it.  THIS IS NOT A REVIEW.  This is merely some thoughts and observations that I made while watching the film.  Also, I will speak candidly of the film so there will be spoilers.  If you haven't seen it, go see it now and then come back and check out this post.  Now, my thoughts on... Oculus.

Thoughts on... The Purge

The Purge Movie Poster
Hey there. What would you do if any and all crime was legal for 12 hours?  Would you lock down at home?  Would you go out and loot, steal, and kill to your heart's content?  If allowing all crime to be legal for 12 hours will guarantee you that there will be NO crime for the rest of the year, will your moral compass accept "The Purge?"  When I first heard of this movie, I thought that the concept of it was intriguing.  Sometime in future America, for 12 full hours, all crime is legal.  There will be no cops, no medical personel.  Every man, woman, and child for themselves.  This, my friends, is The Purge.  By allowing the citizens to participate in The Purge, crime during the rest of the year is practically non existant.  I caught this movie last weekend and I must say that I definitely have some thoughts on it, but first, a warning:  SPOILERS AHEAD!!!  Go catch the movie, and then come back and let's have a discussion, friends!  Now, my thoughts on... The Purge.

The Purge is Coming! Would You Survive the Night?

Hey there.  The Purge is coming!  Have you guys heard of this movie?  It's been getting some pretty heavy air play on TV and on radio and I must admit that I'm more than intrigued.  Consider for a moment that for once a year, for 12 hours, there will be complete anarchy.  All crimes are now legal, no police presence, no medical attention, just you against the world for a complete 12 hours.  How crazy is that?!  That's what Universal Pictures' The Purge is going to bring to theaters this June 7th and I for one can't wait to catch the film!  To celebrate the release of this film, our good friends at Universal Pictures and PartnersHub have provided me with an opportunity to provide you guys a The Purge themed giveaway!  Enter to win an exclusive The Purge pack that includes a mask and a T shirt to help you "survive the night!"  Here are the details!

Chauvinism, Chainsaw Massacres and Characters

With the release of the movie Brave fresh in our minds, I can’t help but think of this film and how empowering it was to women and, ultimately, how it compares to the portrayal of women in other movies. Brave was probably the first Disney film I saw featuring a female protagonist whose sole motivation wasn’t getting married or being rescued by a prince and, you know, that was okay too.

The Magic of Chucky and Child's Play

Hi, I'm Chucky wanna play?
Hey there.  It's Friday night and we're hanging out at home looking for a movie to watch.  We could go out and catch a just released film but we decided to browse through Netflix to see what we could find.  What we decided on was Child's Play, the 1988 cult classic.  The kids haven't seen it.  They're more into the new stuff.  They care not for 80s awesome unless I bring it up and tell them about it.  I always said how some of my earliest memories are that of my dad and I staying up watching movies on HBO.  I'm sure my mother didn't approve.  I was no more than 8 years old or so and there I was, watching Child's Play, Poltergeist, The Exorcist, Phantasm, Hellraiser, you know, movies along those lines.  Looking back at them now, they aren't really child material and I wouldn't show my kids stuff like that at that young of an age.  Anyways, Child's Play came up on Netflix and there I go, saying how awesome it is that we just have to watch it.

Thoughts on... The Woman in Black

Hey there.  Sometime last week, I treated the family out to the theaters to catch a flick.  The wife found this great spot where movie tickets are no more than $3.  Now that is awesome!  The only catch is that the films have been out for more than a month so they're not the newest of films.  Nevertheless, if I haven't seen em, they're new to me and to catch a flick on the big screen for only $3 is pretty damn awesome!  Anyways, the film that we ended up watching was The Woman in Black starring Harry Potter.. er... Daniel Radcliffe.  I've heard that the film was worth a look and I'm still trying to shake Radcliffe as Potter.  lol  If you haven't had a chance to see the film and plan to, don't continue.  SPOILERS AHEAD!  But you have seen it, then go ahead and read my thoughts on...  The Woman in Black.

Thoughts on... Paranormal Activity 3

Paranormal Activity 3 Movie Poster
Hey there.  We recently checked out Paranormal Activity 3.  The wife and I have seen the first two and I don't find them as frightening as my wife does.  I remember her being spooked to the point where we needed to sleep with a light on for awhile.  lol  When it comes to horror films, I usually watch them by myself unless I can convince her to watch them with me.  Needing a movie to check out, this was a great candidate for one to watch with the wife and kids.  Yup... the kids.  The film is rated R so you guys might want to check it out first before watching it with the preteens, but there really isn't anything going on but a lot of swear words.  Since this is the third part of the series and the wife already knows what to expect (eerie noises, quick movements, and blank stares at the camera) I wasn't too worried that the film would be a little too much for the family.  If you plan on seeing the film, don't read further.  SPOILERS AHEAD.  But if you've seen it and what to hear my take, read on.  Here are my thoughts on... Paranormal Activity 3.

Thoughts on... Let Me In

Hey there.  I caught this film a week or so ago when I couldn't find anything else to watch on TV.  Isn't it funny that is usually how you stumble across movies you've been wanting to see?  I've had this one in my sight for awhile now but never really got around to watching it.  I seem to be attracted to foreign films that were remade for the American audience.  This one is no different since there is a Japanese, Spanish, French films based on the original Swedish book. Anyways, before I continue, let me warn you.  THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW!!!  If you haven't seen the film an plan on seeing it soon, go check it out and then come back and let me know what you think.  Here are my thoughts on...  Let Me In.

Thoughts on... Insidious

Creepy kid?  Check.  Scary thing in the background?  Check.
Red?  Check.  Rating... wait what???  PG13???  o_O
Hey there.  Last night, I sat down with the wife and caught the movie Insidious on Netflix.  I love me a good a horror flick and the wife... well...  she gets spooked.  lol  Don't get me wrong, she'll sit down and watch them, but it usually has to be day time or she'll freak out.  The fact that the movie is rated PG-13 made me believe that it will not be as disturbing as other movies that I have watched.  The idea of the film is a good one, but I think it could have been better.  I really think that the rating hurt this film more than anything else as I'll explain below.  There will be spoilers below, so if you have not seen this movie and plan to... go do that now and then come back!  You have been warned!  So here are my thoughts on... Insidious.

Thoughts on... High School of the Dead

Hey there.  Recently, it's been tough getting my horror film fix on.  Young eyes are everywhere recently and I don't want to expose the kids to anything that they shouldn't see.  I mentioned to kids the other day how I used to watch "scary movies" with my dad when I was a young boy.  Great films such as The Fly and cult classics such as Phantasm.  lol  I remember being 6 or 7 and lying in bed late at night watching those kind of films with him.  I understand the sentiment behind his actions.  He very well just wanted to share a hobby of his with his young son.  However, being a father myself, I'm not so sure that was the best idea you had, Dad!  lol  Nevertheless, my love for horror started right then and there and though I would love for my kids to catch that bug, I wouldn't make them sit through some of the stuff I see.  Especially something like High School of the Dead.  Here are my thoughts on...  High School of the Dead.

Thoughts On... The Human Centipede 2

Hey there.  What an insane movie.  When I heard that the sequel to The Human Centipede was to be made, I knew that I had to watch it.  Weird, quirky, disgusting, intense horror flicks are what I like to watch and The Human Centipede did not disappoint in that respect.  The first film told the story of a doctor that came up with a way to create a "human centipede".  He created his specimen by attaching 3 people.  The film used it's tagline, 100% medically accurate, to intrigue viewers.  Is it really possible to attach people that way and have them survive?  The film ended in some what of a cliffhanger and I needed to watch part 2 to see what would happen next.  Especially since word on the web said that the second part would include a 12 human centipede!  So here are my thoughts on, The Human Centipede 2!  *SPOILERS AHEAD*
