Galagathon 2020

Galagathon 2020
Galagathon!!!

Hey there. Retro gaming is awesome. There's just something about the simplicity of the arcade games of the 80's. For many, the concept is simple: Eat dots, avoid ghosts; climb ladders, jump over fire; shoot stuff, don't get shot. Even though the simple concept, they are extremely fun to play. So when an opportunity comes along to have fun and support a charity, you know that your pal Metallman is do his best to be there. And today, I found out about a charity that will raise money to support a local children's hospital through gaming. SIGN ME UP! And sign up, I did! I will be participating in the Galagathon 2020 to help support Riley Hospital for Children.

Got your attention, huh. Yes, my friends, that's Galaga in the title and the event will be focused on the 1981 arcade classic game, Galaga! I haven't played Galaga since FOREVER, so I went ahead and downloaded the bad boy for the Xbox gave it a run. I'm suuuuuuper rusty so I'm going to have to practice if I want to win a prize. What?! I didn't mention prizes? Check it out!

A Battle Royale Tourney! To enter, you'll need to donate at least $10 to the charity (Link here). There's going to be qualifiers going on all week long. The only thing that you'll need is to stream your gameplay on the Galaga Facebook Group so that they can verify your qualifications. Also, it's a great to show off your skills in front of other Galaga lovers out there! And I haven't even mentioned that the event is being hosted by none other than The La Porte Starfighter himself, Mark Schult. This guy is a somebody in the Galaga world and you're not going to want to miss the opportunity to catch him stream his gaming!

Phew... that's quite a bit, huh. I'll be posting my high scores on my social media feeds throughout the week. I punched through the 100,000 point mark and I'm looking to reach at least 200,000. I don't know if that'll be enough to qualify, but that's not going to stop me from trying! At the end of the day, I'm supporting a charity with my gaming and that makes me happy. Hopefully, you guys will be able to join me as well.

So what's your best Galaga score? If Galaga is not your game, what retro game is? Let's hear it in the comments, friends. Later!
