My Laptop is Plagued by the Black Screen of Death

Black Screen of Death
Oh no!!!  Black Screen of Death!!!
Hey there. Sorry for my lack of posts these past few weeks. My time has been consumed dealing with some personal matters and I've been spending most of my free time focusing on that. Nothing negative, actually, quite positive, but nevertheless, extremely time consuming. And even when I can squeeze out some free time, I can no longer post since my laptop is suffering from the, "Black Screen of Death." Ugh! My machine won't boot up. The windows logo appears, but soon after that, I see a black screen with my mouse curser. That's it. Nothing to click, nothing to escape, keyboard is not responding so I can't get to the task manager or run anything via the command prompt. Nothing but black death!

After a force restart, I see the option to "Repair Computer". Well, at least that's something. I go into the recovery console and after the machine tries to repair itself, I get a message that says that the computer cannot repair itself.  I've gone into the command prompt, tried to do a CHKDSK scan and I get some crazy error and the disk cannot be checked.  GREAT! (say it with a great deal of sarcasm)  All I need now is for my HDD to be busted and I lose all my stuff.  After several other trouble shooting through the command prompt, I decided to reach out to my tech friends for help.  The majority of them believe it may be a virus not allowing me to get to my computer.  The only thing that I can think of that would allow a virus in is that my license for my Vipre Antivirus expires this month.  I don't know if the kids may have downloaded something soon after Vipre expired.  Anyways, Kaspersky Rescue Disc seemed to be the go to choice among them to fix my issue.

After a quick search online, I was able to download the .iso file and burned to a CD.  I tried downloading it and booting from a USB flash drive but after several attempts, I simply could not get it to boot from the USB drive.  I suggest skipping the USB and going with a CD or DVD.  Kaspersky Rescue Disc booted up, and after mounting my hard drive, it is now scanning for issues.
Kaspersky
Mmmm...lunch time pancakes and computer repair.  A tech nerd's dream!  lol  =oP
I don't have a final verdict yet.  I don't know if Kaspersky will fix my problem, but if you are stuck with a black screen like I was, it's worth a shot.  Here's a link to the Kaspersky Rescue Disc and instructions on how to boot from it.  Hopefully, it'll work for me and it'll work for you as well.  If it ends up working for me, I will update this post!  Later!

  1. Thank you for sharing. If this doesn't work, maybe check the graphics card? My husband is IT and that is what he said.

  10. Hey there Nerdz. It's one of my favorites. I have my Songbird statue up and I'm looking to get a Motorized Patriot to go along with it. I'm definitely in love with the characters in this series.

  11. Thanks Ashley. Still no luck though. I'm going to try a few more troubleshooting steps before I call it quits and take it to a shop.
