Hey there.  One thing that I told myself that I must do this year is run a marathon.  Whether it be a short 5K or a 20+ mile run, I'm going to do it!  I've been telling myself year after year that I'm going to do it.  Now, I'll be entering my 30th year on this Earth and I haven't been in one yet!  I'm not going to fool myself... it's the preparation that's holding me back.  Long run times on the treadmill, building up my cardio, and making sure that I have the legs under me to make it to the finish line.  It's the main reason why running is not for everybody. But I'm determined, I'm ready, and I discovered the Spartan Race!

What is it to be a Spartan?  The Spartans were known for their hard work and never say die attitude.  By participating in a Spartan Race, you are not only running around in a set course, you are participating in an obsticle course!  Who says that running needs to be dull!  Not only are getting that much needed run, but you're having a great work out while doing it!  And don't get me wrong, this is not a "tough guy" only type thing.  Whatever your experience is, short trail runners, mud runners, marathon runners, or hardcore tough guy runners.  There is a race for you and the Spartan Races are available for men, women, and children of all ages!  A day of great fun and fitness can be a family fun day in the making when you go to a Spartan Race!

It's a great alternative to the standard run of the mill trail run.  And the best part is that I can take the wife and kids with me.  I can participate in a challenging run for myself while the kids and wife can do something a little less strenuous.  I'm looking forward to this!  You need any more info on their obsticle courses, check out thier faq and it should shed some light on how things work.  Let me know if you plan on participating in a Spartan Race sometime soon!  Who knows, maybe we'll meet up and challenge each other!  Later!
